  • The humor of idiots getting hurt.

A while ago I was talking to a student about what we find funny. I made mention that I love watching shows like Smoking Gun's World's Dumbest, or Amazing Videos.

I personally love it when idiots get hurt. I know that sounds harsh, and there are some seriously scary stuff that people have no control of and that's how they get hurt, that I don't find funny.

But say, for example one video was at a horse race show. A fan was so excited, he RAN INTO THE FIELD TO CHEER THEM ON! He didn't even give them a chance to say avoid it, he ran into it moments before he got trampled. He survived, had he not it wouldn't be funny.

Or another video, where a man decided the best way to take a picture of a freaking bear at a zoo was to climb over the gate and walk right up to the bear. Any shock that the bear freaked out and mauled him? Again, survived.

Or a teen decided it be funny to crawl under a trampaleen while his three buddies were jumping up and down on it as hard as he can. He got smacked in the head and got a broken nose and a level 2 concession.

There are brain farts, and there are levels of stupidity that make you cry why. When those people get hurt, it's a great lesson. They'll never do that again.

Anyway, point was, she called me a monster and stormed off. My table mates were confused. Am I a monster? I doubt it.

I'm not exactly smart, but there are alot of things that people should just know that it'll hurt badily if they do it, and they do it, and are generally shocked they get hurt, and even try to sue in some cases. (Like the guy at the zoo that went up to the bear).

    What do you think?

I don't find accidents causing serious injuries funny, no matter how stupidly the victim was behaving.

But I will admit to laughing when someone is trying something idiotic and gets a little bruised. That's slapstick, and I think most people find it funny on some level, if its done just right.

I have no sympathy for people doing stupid stuff and getting hurt or in trouble from it. You're getting what you have coming to you.

Nah, the basic concept behind AFV...is filming someone as they get hit in the nuts

Seriously though, I have no sympathy for people who get hurt while doing something stupid. That includes the idiots who were killed while trying to tip vending machines for free products...and then getting killed when gravity took over. The person ignored the sheer heft of the machine, over a 50-cent bag of chips. What did they think was going to happen when the inevitable happened? Sadly, you get too many lawyers who will think nothing of trying to *reward* such stupidity. They'll sue the manufacturer, the company who owned it, because there "was no warning not to do that."

I think we should remove all the warning labels from every product, and let the problem take care of itself. I have a feeling that our species would improve as a result. Survival of the fittest, in other words

I find them hilarious . Then again, I also laugh at stupid criminals who end up getting hurt in hilarious ways as well, such as the burglar who dared a woman to shoot her with the words "you aint got the balls to shoot me, bitch", and caught two .357 hollow points to his right shoulder for it, which made the doctors remove his entire right arm at the hospital, seeing as it was unsalvageable . I lol'd at that one .

I love World's Dumbest Criminals. I laughed so hard at the guy who tried to steal the ATM and fucked up his car and he took so long messing with it, he'd tripped so many alarms, the cops were just waiting for him. If only the ATM machine fell on him. That would have been priceless.

Last weekend at a party, my friend's husband drunkenly decided to invite the neighbor and his friends over, none of them he even knew very well. My friend was understandably livid about it. Within an hour, a girl said that her bottle of vodka was missing, and the neighbor and his buddies were acting suspicious.

It was pretty obvious there was a bottle of booze in the one guy's pouch of his hoodie. One of our other friends confronted him and took it right out when the guy actually denied taking it. As they were kicking him out, he fell down their crazy windy stairs. It was so funny I almost peed laughing.

Right there is the epitome of someone paying the price for an absolute lack of common sense, and the stories are often some of the most amusing ones I've read.

I wouldn't wish anyone actual harm unless they did something to hurt another (like rapist and murderers). I think it's pretty harsh to wish someone harm just for being an idiot. But, despite not wishing anyone harm, I still laugh my ass off at some of these hillarious videos of stupid getting hurt. I can't even think of any examples at the top of my head, but I know they are there. Whether it's the visual, the irony of the situation, or the swearing afterwards, sometimes it's just funny.

                  Nope. Not a monster.

It's human nature to point and laugh when someone proves that you are superior to them.

Now, I get pissed at people who manage to involve others in their idiocy. Like the horse race fan in the OP. That he involved the racers and endangered the horses is unacceptable. That he got trampled, however...

                    Exactly, exactly.

To this day, I still can't wrap my head around the fact that whenever I purchase a tube of mascara, it says on the package "Do not use while driving"......excuse me?! That's why car insurance is so damn expensive, apparently.

Its not funny if it was just the video played with no commentary, music or sound effects added as the people on the smoking gun show do. It may be funny sometimes without all that added, but yes with the comedians commentary and sarcasm etc added its hilarious. Having watched the show a few times i find it funny, however I still wince and feel for the person getting hurt even if they are being idiotic about it

However there are some people that have that dark, twisted sense of humor or how ever you want to call it, and find this hilarious and may appear as "monsters" to others who don't find it funny at all.
