  • Apparently face book is more important than life

I was scrolling through tv channels to try and find something non-scary and what not to fall asleep to and came across this on tv.
it made me cry then and there. I have no words save for turning to hubs and saying if i ever yell at my child over anything about the stupid computer you have all rights to hit me.

baby killed for interrupting mom's facebook time

looked it up on google as it was news or breaking news on the channel i saw it on cannot recall the station name
google search results, various titles same thing mostly

i don't want to watch tv for a long long time and i don't know why i was compelled to post this here only happy to know my daughter comes first in my mind and that she is sleeping and happy right now

    EDIT/MORE TO SAY
after reading the second article link in the google articles she said part of it was due to her mother being gone. uhm.
i know it cannot always be done but if that were the case i would have called someone to come stay with me and help ME make sure the baby got help as i am not ok mentally to care for my kid etc (if that happened) and yeah that...yes her mother died but thats still not an excuse for it to be ok

Oh my Gawd. That poor, poor, little baby.

I hope she gets the maximum sentence. I'm sorry...even if she had problems...wtf, it was a FACEBOOK game...that is NOT more important than your own infant!

Throw the book at her. That's beyond wrong. It's just a game!!!

Rest in peace, little angel. Hopefully you're in a better place now.

There is a reason I avoid FarmVille (and all the other Zynga games) like the plague they are.

But, seriously, the mother has issues, none of which should be blamed on the diversion she chose to get lost in.

and after further research this happened in january of this year and glad they at least got her court date done in the same year. At least the court sentencing was done within the same year as i know it can take ages to do so.
From what I did learn it was being broadcast because she had been sentenced at that time as it was also in yesterdays (the day i posted this) paper about her being sentenced but i don't know her punishment yet.

There wasn't much for the court to do. The women pleaded guilty to the charges.

At least she pleaded guilty and didn't waste the court's time fighting it. I know I like to play my games but killing a child because they are interrupting you? Farmville and other games on Facebook do not need a lot of interaction from the player.

I know that babies are needy and have to have a lot of care. My question is why didn't she think about this before hand? When a person has a baby there is a massive change in life style. Why don't people think about this before they have a kid?

I really despise the media sometimes. Here is a situation involving a woman with obviously deep-seated psychological issues, and they claim she did it because of..... Facebook.

It's like saying that Jeffery Dahmer killed because he felt a bit hungry.

two points i want to throw in

one made by hubs. where was the child's father in all this?
possibly she was a single mother fine, but did the father even know he had a kid or what

second, i cannot recall where i heard this bit of knowledge but i try and keep it in mind when DD is crying and i feel frustrted (from a bad day or because she still crying cause nothing else worked)
Until a child learns to speak, from the moment they are born all the know how to do is cry. Those first three months thats all that baby can do is cry, and as they grow older the pitch and tone changes and the parents learn the difference. That infant cannot tell you or me that hey i'm hungry or my diaper is wet/dirty only waaah. its up to us as a parent to figure it out or at least know.
(or me, ok i fed her, gas? or diaper issue or sleepy? or what)

its still horrid that she did it but in my mind i thought what drove you to that, everything combined or just not ready for your new life?
however she now has to live with this and i'm quite sure that it is not a good feeling and that even if everyone socially humiliates her and so on, her own guilt and self loathing will eventually be her undoing (this is assuming as i have no idea what mental help is available in jail)

i know this from seeing it in myself with guilt issues and seen it in other people. and knowing how i am after dealing with major upsetting things like this i get logical -emotionally numb - and try reasoning to deal with it. yeah this really got me bad
Repeat after me, "I'm over it"

Facebook did not kill the child.

The media loves painting this as if Facebook was the mostest evilest thing in the whole of the multiverse. The media wants the readers to think that Facebook was invented by Adolph Hitler and Hermann Goering's love child. Were this not Facebook and say Everquest or World of Warcrack, then we'd be under pressure to consider those to be evil by the media.

In a way this is like the kid who committed suicide and he had Dungeons and Dragons books in his room. It must of therefore been the fault of the heathen godless products found therein.

I put the blame on the Mom. The Mom for having the obsessive behavior where she is unable to put aside a game that has no time limits or any penalty for not playing it for a couple of minutes to change a diaper or heat up a bottle.

I assure you that if it wasn't Facebook games (which I do consider evil for other reasons not related to this case), it jolly well would be something else.

The father I'll withhold judgment until I can hear more on the case. There may be a good reason why he didn't know. Off in Iraq/Afghanistan, kept hidden from him, etc.

                        You mean more than usual?

And that's not even 30 days worth of articles, nor was it tough to find. And it doesn't even cover the SCOTUS case pending.<shakes head>

If they didn't say it was because of facebook, would people pay nearly as much attention?

Likely not. If they never mentioned Dungeons and Dragons, the kid that offed himself would have been nothing more than a statistic in the local PD's records. Were it not for the mention of The Sims, the baby that starved from neglect would have gone unnoticed outside of the Asian Community it occurred. None of the incidents that were attached to something that the media paints as "evil" would have made the national news because no one would have given a rat's ass.

Lets face it. Humanity is pretty callous. *yawn* another disaffected teenager gave a Baretta a Blowjob. Ho-Hum, another mother neglected their child. Kid knocks over a liquor store? Bor-Ring!

Toss in the name "Grand Theft Auto" or Myspace or something...make it seem that [insert game here] was to blame and BOO-YAH! You have news and the mindless sheeple out there are lapping it up.

It's gotten to the point where I'm all, "Oh. Another murder related to video games. Bo-ring. When do my stories come on?"
