    Apparaently it's a pedophile risk.

Seriously, by that logic we should be banning any and all hidden cameras because "they could be used by pedophiles".

    Your thoughts?

I'm not usually for the "ban it, it's evil!" crowd, but this is kind of creepy. A barbie doll with a hidden camera? The only purpose I can see for that is spying on others.

While there is something slightly creepy about it, I think banning is a little much. Tiny cameras are nothing new, almost everybody has one in their cell phone now anyways.

'Cause no one would notice a Barbie doll staring at them in the bathroom? Of all the reasons you might not want a doll videotaping your kid [or anyone], they jump to "pedophile's paradise?" DUDE, all they have to do is look at clothes/toys catalogs. Or look outside. Go to the mall. Or hell, I don't know, google "little girl/boy." Why would they go through all the trouble of planting a Barbie and hoping for hot kiddy footage?

[For the record, I don't know that I think it's a good idea. But more for privacy issues in GENERAL, not because of pedophiles.]

That's what wierds me out about it. Remember that case where the schools were spying on the students with the laptops? I can only imagine more invasion of privacy issues similar to that with these. I don't know about banning them, but who thought this was a good idea?

A lot of parents put cameras in teddy bears and other non-suspicious items when they have reason to suspect a babysitter or nanny of abuse.

I heard of someone who did something like that cuz they suspected the person who was looking after their grandma of stealing from her. And they were right; they got actual footage of the woman stealing money out of grandma's bag.

In that kind of situation, I can understand it. Otherwise, my first thought is that it's Big Brother gone mad, not that pedophiles might use it. What is it with people thinking Pedobear is lurking round every corner nowadays?

Simple. A large part of the paranoia can be blamed on the news media. Such "fear" items will sell newspapers and airtime. It's not just for Pedobear-related items either--look at all the sensationalism directed at the weather. I don't know about other areas, but reports of possible snow literally causes long lines at the supermarkets, sell-outs of shovels and salt, and turns every road in the county into a parking lot. All over one little fucking snowflake. In short, it's done because that shit sells. Never mind that it has turned us (again, I don't know about other countries) into a nation of paranoid people.

Thought I'd throw this out there too--there are some people that just seem a bit "off" in some way. For example, in my neighborhood, there's an older guy...who is a bit weird. He'll take his walk around the circle, and will spend several seconds *staring* at the houses. Not the "oh, that garden looks nice" type of look, but the one that creeps many people out, and causes the kids to scatter. Hell, he creeps *me* out, and I'm a 34-year-old male.

Maybe he is a pedo, maybe not. Either way, he's definitely on our "creep alert" and everyone's wary of him.

London had to be the most amusing for me, with the entire city shut down over one inch of snow. I saw that and went "that's IT?"

I've seen these, it is actually kind of obvious that it's a video camera, I mean Barbie has a BIG FREAKING SQUARE IN HER BACK. All a kid would have to do is pick it up and turn it around.

Probably not the best thought out toy, but still...

That would be the LCD viewfinder, and it's practically a tramp stamp where it's located.

A cute little kiddy digi cam is okay but a barbie for a child to play with a hidden camera seems a little creepy to me.

For a hidden camera, it's not very hidden.

When a person gets old enough for someone to be worried about who they're taking pics of, they're also old enough for someone to wonder why they're walking around with a Barbie doll in their hands.

I live in West Virginia and that's been a growing trend, which I just don't understand. Either you're among the half of the state population who own gigantic trucks and thus could plow the roads themselves if they saw fit; or you're among the half who for some reason live at the end of a tiny dirt road at the top of a steep hill, and drive an Escort, so you're trapped any time there's heavy rain.

The former have nothing to worry about and the latter ought to be used to it.

FBI now warning the new Barbie doll camera can be used to make child porn

The camera is capable of filming videos that last as long as 30 minutes. It cannot stream videos online however, so that is a good thing, right?

Mattel is downplaying the possibility that child porn can be made with the Barbie camera as nothing has been reported.
