  • Students suspended for wearing Sex Pistols shirts

Between 10 and 25 teens @ Forks High School in Washington State (yes, the one made famous in Twilight) were suspended for wearing a Sex Pistols shirt

A picture of the shirt in question is on the webpage the link above takes you to.

Apparently, a senior student at the school had been suspended for wearing one earlier in the week, and the newest crop of students to be suspended were wearing the shirts as a sign of protest for the senior's suspension.

School officials, apparently not realizing there is a Punk Band named "The Sex Pistols", believed the term to mean a male's junk, or as romance authors love to say "manhood".

Though I do find this to be amusing, I think it is a little stupid. The Sex Pistols do have a place in history, they are well-known enough for me to have heard of them (and I'm a Country/Oldies/Pirate/Folk type of girl myself).

    What does everyone else think?

It probably does. Finger 11 anyone?

Well, I think it's safe to say that the school is run by a bunch of perverts.

Instead of backing down when they found out the Sex Pistols is a band, they try to stick to their guns so stupid. Except now they look REALLY really stupid.

Schools pay entirely too much attention to what people are wearing to begin with. To make a stand based on your own mistake is foolish... and no, I don't care why the first guy wore the shirt.

"Sex Pistols" absolutely refers to a man's junk. Why do you think the band chose the name? Punk bands have traditionally chosen slightly raunchy or offensive names in an effort to avoid becoming commercial.

Just because it happens to be a band name doesn't mean the phrase is appropriate to wear across your chest at school. The Sex Pistols were popular when I was in school, but we weren't allowed to wear the t-shirts.

Boozy, next thing you'll be telling me is that Kiss's song Love Gun is really a metaphor for a guy's junk.

I'm pretty sure that when anybody sees that t-shirt at that school, they will either think it's the band or wonder who the hell they are.

Now the name is sinonamouse (sp) with the band, but yes, it's orgiins are probably in slang, though everyone I know would think of the band and not a willy.
TBH I thought most of the fuss would surround the word bollocks, but suspending someone for that tshirt, I would just say "could you take that off or cover it with something else" not send them home and cause a ruckus

Least it wasn't cradle of filths Tshirt "jesus is a c**t"

Regardless of how you feel about the shirt, schools have dress codes, and that shirt falls outside of what is considered appropriate dress for school.

While I agree that a Sex Pistols shirt is pretty tame, it's not tame enough to go unscathed if noticed.

And, really, how can anyone seriously argue that a shirt that says at the header "forget the balls" isn't using "Sex Pistols" as a euphemism for a guy's junk?

By this standard, nobody can be allowed to wear a Green Day shirt, since the band derived the name from their pot habit.

I think it's prudish, but it isn't my call to make. I know I saw that same t-shirt being worn by a couple people at my high school way back when I was in high school, but nobody said boo about it.

Or any of Cradle's t-shirts, period.

I think the school's overreacting. A suspension is a lot more severe than, say, 'Can you please turn your shirt inside-out, or otherwise go home and wear a different one?' The other students were protesting the school's Holy Shit reaction to the first kid wearing one.

I wonder if this would rank up with the "This item could be used as a gang item" trend...

I'm kinda lucky in the sense that nearly all schools in Ausland have uniforms (the exceptions are some pre-university schools and "alternative" schools), but from time to time, casual days are allowed.

One of my friends is into metal. And every casual day he would wear shirts with various metal bands on them. Not once did he get sent home for them, even though some of the shirts were downright disturbing (hint: one of the bands is called Dying Foetus-thankfully, our school had a reputation for being strangely sane and the girls knew to use condoms)

It just seems really stupid to me to suspend someone for wearing a band t-shirt.

And oddly reminiscent of THIS: Kid suspended over wearing KoRn t shirt

Granted, the Sex Pistols one is a lil more explicit. But still.
