Samantha Kelly, 14, committed suicide by hanging on November 8, 2010. This was 3 weeks after her first suicide attempt due to bullying at her school.

18-year-old student, Joseph Tarnopolski, was interested in her and wanted to take her to Homecoming. What could have been the start of a high school romance, became a date rape. He was actually arrested for statutory rape during consensual sex. However, Ms. Kelly said there was nothing consensual about the sex at all.

She returned to her school, Huron High, and when he was released on bond, so did Joseph Tarnopolski, the alleged rapist. Everyone in school took sides, and most of the students, took his side as he was the popular of the two students. Even Ms. Kelly's so-called friends took the side of Tarnopolski and declared Samantha Kelly to be a liar.

The Facebook Page has a discussion board and apparently people who have posted condolances to the family are being messaged by the bullies.

That is absolutely heartbreaking as well as disgusting! Not only did she feel so helpless that she took her own life, but she's still getting taunted even after death? How much lower can people stoop? And how many more dead kids will it take until schools start doing something real about bullying? A doctor in the second link states that there is usually more going on than just bullying for a teen to commit suicide, but I have to say that the bullying damn well doesn't help things at all!

The whole situation is messed up but really there should be a basic level of respect for the dead. Regardless of what she said or what actually happened, she's dead now, there's nothing more than can be done to harm her or punish her. What IS being done is punishing her family and remaining friends, and that's totally unfair.

It's things like this that make me feel sad about the state of humanity. Imagine if outsiders were judging humans based on something like this? sickening.

Only if he's guilty. Just cuz she's dead, does not mean that what she said was true.

Before everyone jumps on me for this; no, I'm not saying that she was definitely lying, just that it's not beyond the realms of possibility that she made up a story about being raped cuz she regretted having sex. Which would mean that the boy in question does not deserve to have his life ruined thru her actions.

Yes, she's dead, but she made the decision to end her life; no-one forced her to do so. Rather than get all up in arms and assuming automatically that her story is the correct one, best to direct all vitrol towards the subhumans who are attacking her. That Facebook page should be taken down and the person who set it up banned from the site.
