That's probably because we've seen how well the government has handled their response to 9/11

And Salt Lake is just as bad... if it is religious terrorists we are talking about, we are the global headquarters of a rather large Christian sect (Mormonism). We also act as a regional finance center, the corporate headquarters of Zions Bank is in downtown, as well as large regional offices for Wells Fargo and Chase. We, believe it or don't, have a huge tourist industry, if they were to attack the Salt Palace during the Outdoor Retailers convention they'd kill thousands... do it right and they could get part of Temple Square with it.
To the north we have an IRS tax return center in Ogden. To the east we have Park City which has several large events and the south has BYU and the Missionary Training Center, both would be amazingly good targets if you wanted to damage Mormonism.
I think pretty much anywhere can find something of value for a terrorist to hit, dwelling on it isn't going to help matters (though, for the record, I am still amazed that we had two quasi terroristic attacks in Salt Lake when I worked at the airport and neither one involved the airport... or any other target you'd think they'd target. One person shot up a old run down mall, killing maybe half a dozen, and another person detonated a bomb in the library killing all of zero people and no injuries either, the idiot hid the bomb in a fireplace that absorbed most of the blast).

This isn't exactly new, but after reading this thread I searched YouTube for similar stories.

      Here's one I didn't know about.

Apparently TSA employees aren't required to submit to the same screening procedures all the regular passengers have to go through. They can by-pass them even if they've got bags, cases or backpacks on them. The hypocrisy of it all is infuriating. You'd think that if they believe so strongly in security and safety they would want their employees to set a good example. But apparently it's a "do as we say and not as we do" sort of thing.

Besides that, it's not hard to imagine how easy it would be for a real terrorist get through this. Like that guy in the video says, background checks will do SFA about this very real threat.

          Jesus H. Christ.

I think Jesse Ventura brought up some good talking points about this. Things I agree with are....

          1. If you were touched this way on the streets, it would be deemed by many cops as sexual assault.

          2. Why is the government in charge of security at airports, a PRIVATE enterprise???? Why aren't the airlines in charge of their OWN security, deciding who can and cannot fly their planes????

          3. You get hit with these X-rays. At the doctor, when they X-ray you, they cover your chest and groin with lead and leave the room to protect you. They even do this with teeth x-rays! But they say you can go through these things as many times as you want and it's perfectly fine????

Do you think I'd get in trouble for wiggling my butt and saying "Ok, if you're gonna grab, you better make it worth my while!"

I was going to smack their hand and say "You're supposed to buy me dinner first."

an interesting and kinda gross TSA tale

TSA pat donw leaves a man covered in urine

However, just a couple of days after that, my fiance and I travelled up to London. We went on the train and the tube, cuz we were damned if we were going to let a bunch of terrorists dictate to us and ruin the day we'd planned for months.
Well, I was working from home that day, since my brother was staying with us while travelling the world.

We lived near Clapham Common tube station though, and a couple of days later, I had to walk all the way home from the city because the police went batshit-crazy and shot a Brazillian electrician eight times in the head a couple of tube stops away for daring to catch a tube while having dark skin.

Less than 5 minutes ago, some TSA go-fer was on CNBC trying to justify this crap. She was going on about how we "needed" these things because of 9/11 Sure, like we "needed" extra security after 911...and then the reports of box cutters getting onto planes. Are you fucking kidding me? Once again, the TSA is all up in arms about the *illusion* of security.

As for me, the airlines and the TSA can go fuck themselves. If I'm going to travel long-distance, I'm taking the train. I flew the week after 9/11, and after having to deal with canceled flights (and being crammed in like a sardine on the return), being searched multiple times, I vowed I'd never fly again.

Didn't these machines cost a lost of money? And if people were to be given a choice of a "pat down" or going through those scanners, wouldn't they go with the pat down because they wouldn't want to go through that scanner because of health concerns?

So they go "over the top" with the pat downs to make sure people choose the scanners?

Also, couldn't the President or Congress or the guy in charge of the TSA (the TSA is a federal agency, right?), or whomever stop all these over the top pat downs?

Also, hasn't someone in this thread pointed out the scanners don't always catch whatever is being concealed in body cavities?

If it can be shoved inside a human orifice, it will be done. Don't underestimate the ingenuity of diabolical brains. (And I'm not just talking about Muslim terrorists).

I personally can't see why anyone would want to shove something up their rear or why a lady would want to stash something in her coochie-coo just in the name of getting away with something.

At any rate, if at all possible, people should avoid flying. I understand it's not always affordable or convenient, but at any time you can avoid it, just don't fly. Good old boycotts.

BTW, I read somewhere that one of our government officials has a vested interest in those scanners. That is, he's somehow connected to the company that made them. If that's the case, no wonder the TSA and some officials want them. There's a shitload of money at stake!

Yeah, if I have to go somewhere, I'm taking the train. There's security and there's paranoia. This reeks of paranoia.

I wonder if there's a petition we can sign.
