My sister went on a cruise this week. She flew from Newark to Miami Sunday and just got back today. Only security she went through was a standard metal detector. There wasn't even a body scanner at Newark that we could see where my sister was and she saw one at Miami that no one seemed to have to go through.

And why???? Are the Taliban and al-Qaeda gonna be parachuting troops all over the country??? Are they presently on the east coast rushing our beach? The government and the media are pushing this fear factor crap way too far.

Um, al-Qaeda has stuff in our country already.
I don't foresee them on highways and state borders. Because that will never happen. Honestly, hearing people say that on here sounds like people just trying to use fear to get what they want. Saying that we'll have something as unrealistic as checkpoints at every single state border and highway is absurd. It'd be impossible to do.Violence has resolved more conflicts than anything else. The contrary opinion that violence doesn't solve anything is merely wishful thinking at its worst. - Starship Troopers

And if it's impossible because it costs too much forget that. Just keep adding it to the national debt and it won't cost us a penny.

Because there's too many entrances into every state for it to be done.Violence has resolved more conflicts than anything else. The contrary opinion that violence doesn't solve anything is merely wishful thinking at its worst. - Starship Troopers

In fact, the US Border Patrol already does it, particularly in Washington state.

This is the second time she's been subjected to this, too. She got hit last September, as well, and both times were because she wears a sari. First off, wearing a sari is a stupid reason to trigger a higher level of screening, and second, is there any way to do a patdown on someone in a sari that isn't in some way demeaning?
And an update to the TSA's lack of "cultural sensitivity" or good sense of any sort:
India threatens to withdraw privileges afforded to US diplomats
Another article mentions that the "private" area that the pat down took place in was a transparent booth. Not only that, but supposedly, one of the agents actually tried to have her remove her sari (!) before being shot down by a supervisor.
