Yes, you read that right: an adult tackled a child

The family were at the Browns stadium to watch the Jets vs. Browns game. Her son was wearing a Jets shirt. While in the stadium the Browns fans were fine. It wasn't until after the game, when they were walking to their car, that Browns fans became unruly, throwing food at the boy and his parents, yelling profanities and an allegedly drunk Browns fan tackled the boy from behind.

Rather than wait for security, the boy and his parents hoofed it to their car and got out of there. (The mother thought it more prudent to leave than wait for security while in the midst of rabid Browns fans).

So ... is this hinky or legit? And what does everything think about it?

*sigh* I really can't think of a better reason for limiting alcohol sales at sporting events to be honest.

I hope the club's management got names of the people in that group (the ones throwing stuff were no better) and banned them from setting foot in any games the team plays at. That is just plain disgusting.

Wow. It definitely wasn't a money grab, as the mother of the kid has declined the Jets' offer to fly them out for a home Jets game.

As far as I can tell, they have also declined any form of compensation from the Browns, as well.

Multiple reports went in about the tackle, so it appears that the event did, indeed, happen. The mother's interest in publicizing the issue is to try to get people to make the parking lot safer.

While the Browns management has said they will look into the incident, they have also stated that the parking lots are controlled by the city, and it is technically their responsibility, which is supported by other reports.

The boy was holding his father's hand and only he was taken to the ground? In addition, the father did not confront the man, let alone fight him?

Could it be the drunk tripped and fell on the kid? Could it be the kid and the drunk collided in some other way and the boy fell?

If the story isn't true, then what's the motivation behind it? They never released their last name, they didn't accept compensation from either ball club, and the mother has stated that now that it's out in the open, they're bowing out completely.

There were multiple reports of the kid being tackled, so it wasn't just the family that claims it happened. The reports also state that there were hecklers jeering the kid and throwing food at him prior to the drunken fan taking him down.

As for why the family didn't stick around, you've seen mob mentality on this very board among people who are relatively sober; would you honestly stay or would you, consider you and your family's safety and get the heck out of Dodge?

How many football games have you been to? The story given sounds extremely plausible. Cleveland fans are known for being nasty too.

I've been in hostile territory. I've been messed with. And you know what happens when you react and give the jerk the beating he has coming to him? The rest of the fans, who are also drunk as hell, gang up on your and you have a 50/50 shot of making it back to your house or going to the ER. The safest bet you have is to get the hell out of there before the rest of the douchebags get riled up and join in.

Maybe she turned it all down because her exaggeration got more publicity than she intended. We see here and on CS all the time how people, especially mothers, blow things out of proportion.

I'm not saying the kid wasn't physically harmed in some way. All I'm saying is maybe the kid wasn't really tackled. There's a difference between tackling someone and tripping and falling on them.

Browns fans can be nuts. I'm a fan of one of their big rivalry teams and I've actually been in physical confrontations with some of them, back in my drinking/partying days.

Granted, I was an adult - but still.

Several eye witnesses corroborate that the kid was attacked. Not just the family.

Plus, what else are the family to do? One of their member (the one wearing the Jets jersey, to whom the Browns had just lost) has been physically assaulted by 1 out of up to 60,000 fans. The cops would laugh them out of the station if they tried to report that.
