  • How dare she use the female bathroom. She must use male bathroom!

A woman was arrested for using the woman's restroom in a library.

To be fair, she use to be a male. Key word being USE too, as she's now female.

Doesn't matter. She was arrested and held for two days. Not the first time it's happened ether.

I have no words to express how much this pisses me off. She is a woman. She has always been a woman, at least in how she views herself. Will people EVER understand those who are transgendered?!

I'm not myself, but I know a few, and there's one guy who I feel sorry for trying to find a bathroom to use...we have hardly any single bathrooms/family bathrooms on campus. Nothing allows for transgendered people at all.

I don't know much about transgender, but it's ridiculous that she'd actually get arrested over this.

Normal use of a properly-designed restroom does not involve seeing anyone else's privates anyway. It's the sort of thing that shouldn't matter... and yet this is exactly what has stalled ENDA, for instance: all people have to do is pretend not to know the difference between a transgendered person who has to pee and a man wanting to sneak a peek at women, then shout about how the latter is what a bill would permit, and down it goes.

Okay, so let me get this straight. Being transgender, this is a man who has changed herself to look like a woman. Is she now completely physically a woman? Or does she still have all the man parts and just crossdresses to look like a woman?

God this is far from black and white.

not read the link, but the OP states USED to be, so I'm guessing post op, wouldn't know to look at womanly bits.
and lo should a female to male post op use the same library and ladies sticking to the "use the one you were born as" rule, there would be double standards and he would be asked to use the gents.
This woman is now a woman and depending on country and state could legally change gender on documents (not too sure on this state in question but iir it can be done) so it's like asking a lesbian to use the gents so straight women wont feel they are being oggled

but don't most if not all public cubicles have floor to celing partitions or very little gap either end, so its not as if she could take a peek

Supposing she is post-op, then obviously the correct bathroom would be the female bathroom and not the male bathroom.

KTRK reports that a preoperative transgender woman in Houston was arrested last week for using the women’s restroom at the city’s main library.

The woman’s arrest appears to conflict with the city’s nondiscrimination policy, enacted by Mayor Annise Parker earlier this year, which permits people to use restrooms according to their gender identity, regardless of their biological sex.
OK pre-op male dangly bits it is then, but again a conflict with city policy

The policy is pretty clear, but still. I could basically say I feel like a woman on the inside so I should be able to just walk into the women's restroom.

not too sure how it stands on not even opting for op transgender issues, but being outwardly female and you wouldn't know to look or TSA pat down or in the first crocodile dundee goose em who could tell?
I've played the chick or dick game, where you take a cropped image of a woman or a pre op male to female and see if the other person gets it right, damn some of em are better looking than natural women, mind you if I'm spending money to look like one I'm not going to look like I've been run over like bree from "Transamerica"

the woman in the article however

Well, someone must have known in this case or else she never would have been reported.

I'm taking that to mean that she still has male parts down there. However, I don't think anyone would know that unless she was nude from the waist down; she obviously has been taking hormones and even sounds female (at least to me) based on the video.

I still don't see the problem with her using the women's bathroom. She identifies as a woman, acts like one and wishes to be treated like one. She's not going in there to get some peek show or to cause a problem. In the video, she said she tried using the men's bathroom once and was very uncomfortable because there were other men in there and she didn't feel safe. I can't really blame her; there are plenty of people who don't understand what she's going through and may harass or even try to assault her, especially because she'd stick out a lot more in a men's bathroom.

The post stated that a security guard stated a man in the ladies, now shes not the most attractive woman (transgender or not) but she doesn't look like a man to me

nor do I, I read an article about a 10ish year old boy who expressed a desire to become a woman and started secondary school (UK highschool) enrolled as a girl, the school knew she wasn't but at that age you wouldn't know unless told.
she was given a separate toilet to use and changed in segregation, this part I can understand, the toilet I'm 50/50 on, the school then held a special assembly to explain who she was and what she was, promptiing alot of confused children to ask their parents WTF was going on.
It's hard enough to go through with the pysical changes (even more so in the states with psych evaluation before the final leg crossing snip) without everyone in school knowing about it.
true some of her class mates from primary school were there and might of recognised "him" after a summer break growing hair long and practicing being more feminine and she could get bullied due to it, from either sex.
but for the class to just go up and say "young mary here is really a boy named billy", its like that thread about a teachers sex life being broadcast by the principle

Exactly. She doesn't look like a man. So the only way someone could have reported it was if they already knew she used to be a man.

Yes, that's how the policy is supposed to work.

I've never quite understood why it's any better to possibly be seen naked by people of the same gender as people of the opposite. They're still complete strangers. And considering that every women's restroom I've ever seen has stalls with doors, I don't really get what the hubbub is about.

Her facial structure is actually very masculine. I'd have noticed it were I to see her. But, unlike at least one other, I wouldn't care, even if the place I'd noticed her was in a women's restroom.
