    article here

Ok I am very sorry for the man's loss of his daughter. And the driver DID violate the law by texting while driving and driving with an expired license. Be mad about that by all means, it was wrong and cost someone their life.

    But really?

After learning that the 19-year-old was driving with an expired license, the victim's father said he wants to know why she was allowed to drive in the first place. He said there are no crosswalks close to where his daughter lived, but he's more shocked that the teen was driving with an expired license.
yes because a license has majickal properties that prevent a car from starting

And because everyone has someone watching them at all times to make sure they don't break the law.

Yes her license was expired, that doesn't mean much, people drive with suspended or even revoked licenses, heck in an emergency I've taken the wheel-and I've never even HAD a license*. I just don't get why people get as outraged as they do about this when it happens. Can someone enlighten me please?

*driver passed out on the road(pain from passing a kidney stone), I was in the passenger's seat, slid over while driver was pulled into the back seat, brought the car to a stop on the side of the road, assessed the driver and drove until someone else was sober enough to take over-and no I do not know how to drive, we were about 30 miles from anywhere and this was well before cell phones.

Count me in as how I don't get how people can think that way, either.

It's no excuse and I think the teen needs to be locked up and have the book thrown at her, but it also makes my head hurt a tad when people say things like "HE HAD A REVOKED LICENSE, OMFG WHY DID HE DRIVE DRUNK?!"

Um, because, reality check....a good 95% of people on revoked/suspended licenses don't give a shit and won't quit driving until they are in a jail cell for a long period of time or have racked up several thousands of dollars worth of OAR fines.

You guys are asking why someone whose daughter is dead why they're not acting rationally?

I don't agree with that string of logic, but I can understand the grief that drives a person to jump to those conclusions.

um he's more upset about the expired license(expired as in didn't pay the $30 to renew it, and the article doesn't say how long it had been expired, she could've been on the way to the DMV for all we know), than the texting while driving which is what actually CAUSED the crash.

That's what I'm not getting. And I'm noticing it a lot. People are getting upset at things that are totally unrelated to the situation.

When my now ex-husband was in a near-fatal crash(emergency surgery to remove several sections of large intestine that was damaged), was I "shocked" that the drunk driver was unlicensed? No but I was a bit shocked that the driver was drunk at 9am on a wednesday. Which is what the cause was, him having a valid license or not had absolutely NOTHING to do with the crash.

I agree . I mean really the expired license thing is whatever, but everything else about texting and driving and no crosswalk in the area that's something to be angry about. The people that drive illegally with a suspended/revoked/cancelled license only care about getting caught in the act.

add one more thing about poeple in our state (heck most states anyway) Blas that people do no matter HOW illegal it is to do. even with lots of $$$$$'s in fines they STILL do it.
I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.

will add one more statistic to the pile of numbers of people who drove with a suspended license. However she didn't know until she had to get her license replaced when her purse was lost. But then again by the time the DMV informed her she had ceased driving anyways. That would be me, and I am able to drive yet my vision is impaired enough I refuse to. I can't even back out of the driveway without messing up. The point is I did this by choice because I was aware of my inabilities even when sober. So why the hell do other drivers knowing their limits still drive with licenses or not drunk or while texting.
what the hell is so important on that phone that you cannot pay attention!?
Repeat after me, "I'm over it"
              Yeah we're so over, over
Things I hate, that even after all this time...I still came back to the scene of the crime
