  • Prohibition Campus

I just found this out about my campus. ... it's dry.

I don't just mean dry as in "they don't sell alcohol on campus" but dry as in, you are not allowed to have any period.

    Even if you're 21.
Even if you're 21 and the alcohol is in your stomach or blood. Yep. You can't even leave campus and go to a bar. You have to wait for it to leave your system before you can come back.

    holy fucking monkey balls.
The military isn't even THAT strict. (unless you're on duty) And I'm talking US Navy stationed in Japan... they were less strict than my college.

I'm sooo glad I never got a room on campus. This whole "alcohol is wrong" attitude is complete BS.

That is - I believe the current meme is 'what is that I don't even'

The level of idiocy implicit in that prohibition is just staggering.

That sounds like my school. We are a dry campus. Even if you're 21. And yeah, they said that even if you go out and drink somewhere else and come back drunk, you can get an alcohol violation. Again, even if you're of age.

Although they also kind of hinted...if you're not making a disturbance or anything and you're of age, they probably won't care.

      But still. No booze.

Do you go to my school lol???

Dry campus means no alcohol period. My school was a dry campus. Even if you went off campus, drank, then came back with alcohol in your system, it was against the rules. Age didn't matter.

So, because the human body naturally produces traces of alcohol anyhow, everyone was constantly violating the rules by Living?

I can understand 'Dry' in the sense of 'No alcohol allowed on campus'.
Dry in the sense of 'No alcohol allowed, even for medical purposes (rubbing, IIRC) or because you went to a bar and had a beer or three, so stay off our property until <insert Stipulation here>' Just makes me think of Political Correctness gone mad.

Holy shit is that stupid! As if no alcohol on campus grounds wasn't strict enough. I don't even like beer, but I don't think I would get along too well with that college.

Yeah, my undergrad campus was supposedly dry, but we all had liquor in our dorm rooms. The entire county was dry, so we'd all carpool to go to the liquor store 30 minutes away. It's an absolutely ridiculous rule, and, you know what's rich? On these very same campuses, if there's a fundraising gala or a party for the bigwigs you *know* that they're passing around wine. College students are gonna drink, and if they're 21, they ought to be allowed to have alcohol in their rooms. Then at least they'll drink in the relative safety of their rooms and not be driving someplace.

Now, I don't think that school had a "you can't even have alcohol in your system" rule. But I could definitely see a private, religious school doing that.

If your body produces alcohol enough to register a .01 or greater when you do a breathalyser, you probably have a medical condition you should see your doctor about.

Common sense says all alcohol banned meaning ethanol, drinking alcohol. Not IPA.

Well, in PA, nearly all state schools have banned alcohol completely. No state funding is to support a wet campus or something like that.

Up until I got to that part, I was going to say my school was the same way. As long as you weren't doing it in school property, they didn't care. I even asked the security guard once, hypothetically of course , what he'd do if he saw one of the students stumbling around drunk. His answer was, "Help them to their room." Hell, one time I remember my friends carrying me to my room.

Most of the security guards wouldn't give you trouble unless you did something obviously drunk on the cameras. Like falling down. Pissing your pants. Signing someone in and writing all over the page (they use them as legal evidence if anything ever happens so they have to report screwing around with those).

^Wait, you have to sign in? That sucks. We just have an ID card we slide and it opens the door. We don't even have to go by the front desk, depending on the entrance lol.

Only if you have a guest. Otherwise, you just had to flash your ID. Well, first to get in the building, you have to swipe your card (and if you don't live in the dorm, it won't unlock). Then you have to show the guard your ID. Every dorm has a different color sticker for each semester. So that's how they tell if you belong in the dorm.

Oh. You guys definitely have more security than us then. We don't have a security guard to flash our ID to. It's just commonly accepted, I guess, that the only way you can get into the building is to swipe your ID card. I imagine that it doesn't work the instant you no longer live in that dorm.

Although, of course, all you have to do is wait for someone else to open it or claim your card's not working...

                            I get paranoid sometimes...

                              SUNY

and yeah they really are trying to promote "alcohol is bad".

a while ago they had a whole "Sober by choice" campaign going on - fuck that. only reason i'm sober is cos i can't really afford alcohol*
(well except tonite, i splurged on some cheap michelob pomegranate... hey it's not bad. not my regular type but it's drinkable)

they encouraged people to make their own lil signs about drinking.
and one of the signs they showcased was one that said "Drinking is bad"

                              fuck that.
i drink legally and responsibly. there is nothing "bad" about that.

Rocco: I am so sick of all of this self help, twelve step, leftover hippie generation bullshit!
Connor: Now they don't want you to do anything, right? Just sit there. Don't drink.
Murphy: Don't smoke. Don't drive fast.
                              All: Kiss my ass!
                              Hell yeah!
