  • Sgt Maupin's body found

Well. Finally at least a bit of closure in this regards.

For those who may not be aware of what I am talking about. In 2004 Then Pvt Matt Maupin from Batavia ohio was part of a convoy in Iraq that as attacked. He ws declared missing/captured. he beame sort of a rallypoint for many of the support groups/ pro soldier groups in the area. And was promoted in absentia to Sgt then Staff Sgt. i am not as certain if he was national or not. Anyhow there was a video released tha reportedly showed Sgt Maupin bein executed by alqueda operatives. It was as usual grainy and low budget and could not be confirmed.

Well recently the US Army confirmed that they had recovered Sgt Maupin's remains. At least his family finally knows for certain. May his spirit rest in piece.

Yeah it is good news (i guess of a sort) for the family in that they can finally greive and begin the healing process after 4 years of waiting and hoping that he would be coming home alive. Unfortunately like too many already he's coming back in a box.

No problem about letting you know as I figured he was more of a hometown hero like so many others than someone who would be well known nationally or internationally.

Too many hometown heroes lost. Too many hometown heroes unsung. Too many hometown heroes with their lives unsprung. So how many is too many for the cost?
