  • I just don't know what to say..

    http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/12/28/...ath/index.html

Yeah..I believe in 'whatever you feel like doing', but is it just me or is this a new level of 'wtf'? First, I am not sure I buy it as an accident, but IF it is..there is no words.

The level of idiocy of that is just..too much.

I think that one of them would have remembered loading the gun. I guess there's nothing that some people won't do.

Stupid as it is, these things happen... unless they turn up a strong motive, he'll probably wind up convicted on a lesser charge and nobody will ever know whether it was an accident, murder, or suicide.

As a murder method, it's even stupider than playing with a gun that way to begin with... but for suicide, it's pretty clever, especially if you really want to hurt the guy pulling the trigger.

The technicalities of the law may say differently, but I say Murder. Fucking. One.

Whether he had loaded it sometime previously, to be ready for burglars or whatever, or whether his wife had loaded to commit suicide in this manner, or whether the Magic Gun Loading Faeries snuck in and loaded it, it was imcumbent upon him, the one that would be handling the gun, to be sure the gun was completely empty before playing their little "game".

I say Thinly Veiled Murder, or Too Stupid To Walk Among Us.

^I vote for Too Stupid To Walk Among Us. FFS, if that's your fantasy, why would you not get a fake gun?! I'm pretty sure you could get one that looks fairly realistic, but won't hurt you.

              Not the same, that's why.

It's a different magnitude on why I don't throw things when I get mad. If I'm mad enough that I want to throw something, it had better mean something, but since I'm rational enough to know that I'd regret breaking something, I just don't bother.

My vote is for criminal stupidity. They've had the guy in custody for over a week since it happened, and they have yet to actually levy any charges, which makes me think that they don't have anything that they can use to push it to Murder, much less Murder One. I have a strong suspicion this will play out to Manslaughter, which the guy will take (if he's not even stupider than he's already proven to be).

There's nothing in any of the news reports I could dig up that can indicate anything more than what he's given in his statements.

yup he violated all three rules of handgun safety-so if nothing else-criminaly negligent homacide or manslaughter...nothing less, safety is no accident. and really if you can't follow three damn rules you do not deserve to be in society.

"pulled the handgun's slide back" Um at that point you would see the round, plus you still have to disengage the safety(if there is one), and pull the trigger, just pulling the slide back(which takes normally two hands-one on the grip and one on the slide) will not cause it to discharge.

My biggest beef is, if you are going to go that route, wouldn't you want to take the necessary precautions? Like say..check the flipping gun?!?! Criminally stupid, either way it goes.

I'd agree. This doesn't sound like he did it by mistake.

I can understand violating the first two rules for the sex game. Some people get off on gun play. I suppose its that we've got an instinctive fear of weaponry. I've had a friend who did that, and enjoyed it, so I suppose whatever you want. Its not my job to psychoanalyze. But even if you break those two rules, I think it counts as criminal negligence NOT to check to see if the gun is loaded. I mean, I don't know much about guns, but its not hard to see if there's any bullets in them, right? You should be able to tell.

I hate people who have no respect or understanding of guns. They are not toys or fun like on your video games. They can and will harm people, including yourself.

This would be why honest people have to go through hoops and ladders just to own guns, even if they only target practice on them and never have to really use them.
