  • Wah! They didn't pick me cause I'm ethnic!

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,315624,00.html

I need to know how some of you on here feel about this.

Apparently, the Miss California pageant committee had some issues and crowned the wrong girl. They called her to tell her about the error, and then together they placed a call to the real winner.

The committee let her keep her crown, sash, necklace, prize money and even returned her entry fee.

Yet, the "scorned Miss California" as the media is calling her, is suing for racial discrimination and public humiliation.

I don't know about you guys, but I think this is Bullshit. I understand it must be heartbreaking to learn that you didn't really win the crown. But c'mon!

I feel sympathy, but not for the greed that's being displayed.

I thought the Fox article was pretty balanced, so I've posted it so I can see what you all think.

Well, the previous year's winner is quite dark-skinned and possibly - whatever the current correct term is for people with at least some African heritage. The corrected winner - Beazley? - looks more 'ethnic' to me than the incorrectly crowned girl. Neither looks Aryan-blonde-blue-eyes, but the corrected girl looks less Northern European than the incorrectly crowned girl.

So since my understanding of what she probably means by 'ethnic' is 'not mainstream, White Anglo-Saxon Protestant', I don't think she's got a leg to stand on as far as 'racial discrimination' goes.

As for 'public humiliation': well, there are two ways to handle a piece of news like this. "Oh drat, that's really upsetting. Well, good luck to her! She's a nice girl, I'm sure she'll do well." or "Waaah! It was MINE! WAAAH!"

One of those ways guarantees that you'll be humiliated. Guess which one? The other one makes you look even better than the actual winner, and if she was hoping to wangle fame from it; well, she can wangle even more fame from the uniqueness of the situation.

I was upset that she took the WAHHHH it was MINE! angle and garnered special treatment and sympathy. (thanks Ellen)

If she wins this lawsuit, a piece of me dies inside.

      What happened to good sportsmanship?

I feel very badly for her. I do. How awful to be so excited that you've won, only to find out that you really didn't.

      But to fight it?

I don't want what isn't rightfully mine. If I won something, I want to have truly earned it so I can feel good about it.

I guess I hold myself to a higher standard than some people.

I just can't believe she's pulling the race card on top of it all. That lowers my opinion of her even more.

Maybe she thinks that if Naomi Campbell can pull the race card for being a bitch at the airport, she can, too.

On a side note, I despise Donald Trump and everything that bears his name, including this pageant.

His ties are expensive as fuck, I'm not paying upwards of 175 for a damn piece of neckcloth.

              What do you expect?

Society has showed us (Customers Suck can't demonstrate it any better) that yelling, screaming and cursing gets results. Until it stops yielding results, people are going to keep crying foul until they get what they want.
