And other sports aren't dangerous? Even in non-contact sports, you can get jacked up.

Track and field? Runners can get shin splints (VERY common and VERY painful) and broken legs from pounding the pavement too hard. Throwers can bean someone with a shot or discus. Pole-vaulters propel themselves to dangerous heights with flexible sticks.

    Swimming? Try not to drown.

Archery or rifle team? Don't shoot yourself or your teammates.

Not to mention, the rewards of wrestling greatly outweigh the risks. First of all, it gets you in amazing shape, because you have to learn to use strength, speed, and endurance equally to come out on top. Second, if you win a race, congratulations, you're a really fast runner. If you win a wrestling match, congratulations, you were able to SUBDUE A MAN, NO MATTER HOW HARD HE FOUGHT AGAINST YOU, AND WHO WANTED TO DO THE SAME TO YOU. Third, it's damn fun. I only got to do it for one year, and now find myself challenging all my guy buddies to throw down when we get bored.

Okay, someone needs to please explain to me how it's possible to coach this sport and not end up on the sex offenders database.

I'm not even joking. You can do a move that even when not fucked up has you clawing away at your opponents ass while the two of you writhe around all over each other? That's best case scenario, right there. Worst case scenario you're on your way to fisting another dude while you're writhing around all over each other.

Seriously, how do you coach that? I'm straight up fascinated at this point.

I watched the video someone posted. Definitely ass grabbing going on there.

I'm not trying to make fun of someone's sport, here...but the ass grabbing I just saw...I dunno, man, that just didn't look right.

You think that's bad, you should check out the videos of college wrestling matches some guy has up on YouTube advertising full length videos he sells of the matches. The ass grabbing is the least of it.

To be honest, I'm pretty sure the vast majority of wrestlers get over being squeamish about the likelihood of other guys pawing around their junk while scrabbling around for leverage on the mat pretty quickly. The ones that don't likely just drop out. While wrestling, I'd bet it never gets beyond thoughts of what not to grab ahold of.

Easy. People understand it's not sexual and POOF! It's not sexual.

Yes, other sports are also sometimes dangerous and often silly. I make jokes about them too.

              Uh...yeaaah....you're right, it's not....but it is.

That's pretty much why some people never get around things like breastfeeding in public. It's not sexual...but its tits.

In this case, it's not sexual either...until someone gets fingered...

I'm sorry, I'm laughing right now. I can't discuss with without giggling. Sorry.

You actually bring up a very good point, RK.

The powers that be in the US put so much emphasis on various parts of the body only being about sex and sexuality that unless you make an effort to "deprogram" your way of thinking, it's hard not to do the same.

You're right, of course. I get really annoyed when people do it to women, but here I am doing it myself to a couple of guys.

Kind of hard not to force logic onto how you're programmed.

Of course, that brings up an interesting question as relates to this whole thread.

Is what the kid did really sexual assault, or was it just your average, garden-variety assault associated with typical bullying and hazing routines. Neither are acceptable, but one carries a life-long stigma attachment that is being attached far too liberally.

Or is it just a wrestling move the kid fucked up and the freshman didn't like it so he cried assault to get the senior in trouble, in which case he succeeded?

Well, I guess. If, you know, you totally ignore the fact that the senior essentially admits to having done something to the freshman in an attempt to "motivate his teammate to wrestle."

The fact that a particular move could "motivate" someone to do something they apparently weren't doing indicates that it isn't just a wrestling move. The matter of fact manner in which he made that comment is probably a sign that it's not uncommon among those attending that school to get that move done like that if they're perceived as being too passive on the mat by an upperclassman.
