  • Oakland Teacher suspended after reports of sex acts done by students in 2ND GRADE !

Report of sexual act in an Oakland elementary school classroom leaves parents with many questions

There was a similar but slightly different incident a few years back involving fifth graders:

I really have no words for this. None.

Seems to me more likely the accusation will turn out to be false than true, but far better to investigate than not.

Well, yeah: playing doctor and "You show me yours, I'll show you mine!" can happen pretty early. All it takes is for a boy to have seen "Daddy do that to Mommy, and she seemed really happy!" and there you are.

Actually, I'm more worried about this:

Dr. Stuart Lustig, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at UC San Francisco, said sexual play among children -- though often worrisome to adults -- is not uncommon, even at a very young age.

"They do experiment with each other's bodies," he said. "It's part of normal development."

If the activities are coercive or repetitive, however, it raises concerns that a child has been abused or exposed to sexual activity or material, Lustig said. He also said oral sex is not as common, "and probably more concerning.
      "

This could easily kick off a witchhunt if people start believing there's been some sort of organized sexual abuse of the children.

Sadly enough I could see both happening. Though in the case of the second graders I’d be asking what the heck was the teacher doing while the kids were getting it on with each other. I’d also wonder what their seeing at home if they think doing oral sex is ok in public. After all theirs a big difference between “You show me yours, I’ll show you mine” mentality and actually having sex.

The 5th graders. Well theirs no teacher and children have been having sex at earlier ages, so its defiantly possible. What’s really disturbing in that article is that the children set up a kid to watch out for the teacher. They knew what they were doing was wrong and did it anyway. Call me dated for having this mentality but these are 11 and 12 year olds, what goes on kids heads these days?

Yeah, why is everyone assuming that sexual abuse DIDN'T happen? It could have. Not saying it automatically did--and certainly not that the school organized it--but it has happened before.

I would also want to know what the eff the teacher was doing, to not notice oral sex going on in his classroom.

Personally, while I didn't have oral sex with classmates, I knew way too many things than was appropriate for my age level. It would have been nice if someone had given a damn.

You must have had some really observant teachers that noticed every little thing that happened. For all we know, it was two kids who went into a closet or something where the teacher obviously wouldn't have been able to see.

Yeah, it's happened before. But it has also happened before that overeager psychologists, lawyers, reporters, cops... brought Hell down on innocent people by accusing them of sexual abuse without any real evidence. Remember all those "Satanic Cults" back in the late 80s(?) that apparently molested and sacrificed kids all over the US?

Now, I agree there's something strange about a teacher not noticing two of his 2nd graders trying out oral sex in his class room (unless there's 40 students with seating for 20) - but 5th graders posting a lookout to warn them of teachers coming when they're doing something they're not supposed to do? Come on; they'd do the same for smoking. And 12 is at least an age where sexual experimentation is becoming more likely.

My girlfriend's mother used to drive a special transport bus for the mentally handicapped; take them to school, or to craftshops where they'd be able to do something with their time, under supervision, and make a bit of money as a bonus. She mentioned that once the nurses there told her that they had to watch their charges like hawks when they went outside for breaks or on trips, because quite often, a guy and a girl would disappear into the bushes. They might only have the mental age of five-year-olds, but apparently, their bodies had no trouble figuring out where everything goes...

At some point, kids hit puberty; hormones kick in, and a lot of shit happens that they probably don't understand. Teaching them in time may just avoid another 14-year-old-pregnancy.

Teach them?!? We can't have that!

We have to live in an aura of fear and restriction, as if either of those have any chance of keeping things we don't want to happen from happening.

If we educated our children (and adults, for that matter) they might have a chance to make an informed decision about something and no longer be dependent on us/their parents/the clergy/the government for making the tough decisions.

Ahhh, but of course... if teenagers aren't told about sex, they're not going to have any. How stupid of me to forget...
