Keep looking.
And looking.

And, yet, they can still manage to not judge other people just because they happen to like the Jazz, instead.

I can't speak for the dealership, but my office has a dress code and not abiding it will get you written up and your arse fired. Though no joking would be involved. Especially if it was something you could easily take off or cover up but refused too. And yeah, sports stuff is on the list here. ( Or anything with obnoxious logos, etc ).

But no one I know is fanatical about it. The worst I've ever seen over sports teams is friendly ribbing. Nothing wrong with that. But when I see grown men act like big babies over whose sports team is better and whose team sucks, they annoy me even worse than sucky customers do.

While I'm not exactly... Passionate about sports. I probably wouldn't notice if someone was wearing a packers tie. Or... I'm from Boston, so I guess... Are the Jets their rivals? I mean, it looks like it from Greenday's comments.
I don't think its right to dislike people based on their favorite sports team. But, that said, people WILL dislike people based on their favorite sports team.
I don't have all the context here, but it seems that the manager was perfectly justified in telling him to remove the tie. As for firing him, I don't know, it would really depend on weather or not there had been a history of insubordination.
Still, it seems to me that the manager spelled it out pretty clearly that either the tie goes or he goes. I don't think its easy to take that as a joke if the manager called him into his office to talk about it."Nam castum esse decet pium poetam
ipsum, versiculos nihil necessest"
