There was enough evidence of cheating for Microsoft to act as they did. His mother even admits it. If she was any kind of parent at all she would've been asking her son if he did anything that might have prompted the cheater label, or looking into Microsoft's terms of service regarding xbox live accounts herself, or keeping on her son's case until the truth finally did come out.
Anything but going right to the media and getting the autism awareness crowd on her side. Even though the truth's now out it will get at most 1% of the public attention the original story did.
All this kid's mother taught him was to play the autism card whenever you do something wrong. Bravo. How many stories are there on the main board about crappy parents making excuses for their children's behavior anyway?
