  • Tea Party SCs - Too hot for the main board!

This story comes from a friend of mine who works as a server at a restaurant.

Apparently a few weeks back they had a sizable group (30 or so) from a local Tea Party group holding a luncheon/business meeting at the restaurant.

First they put up a bunch of anti-Obama signs/flyers/etc. around their tables and loudly went about the business of conducting their meeting, apparently not caring who was in earshot. Some disparaging remarks about gays and immigrants and religion were made.

Apparently they were pretty picky about their food and kept the waitstaff busy the entire time they were there. The kicker came at the end: When the bill came, the leader of the Tea Party group complained to the manager and tried to get him to lower the bill because he felt they deserved more of a group discount than they got. Manager refused.

On top of that, although the mandatory gratuity/group surcharge of 18% was added to their bills, they all paid in cash and deliberately shortchanged all the bills by that 18% so everyone got stiffed on their tips.

The manager has decided to no longer allow any Tea Party groups at the restaurant.

Pretty sure they broke the law by not paying the bill in full.

Have to go with Greenday on this. If the 18% is listed as part of the cost of having a large group, then not paying that portion of the bill is a dine and dash and it would be nice if someone went after them for it.

I too agree with Greenday on this one. auto=grat IS part of the bill and anything less is stealing or dine and dash. auto grats are there for a good reason (as discussed in this thread)

I do not think, however, that the manager should ban ALL Tea Party groups as all groups are should not be painted with such a wide and broad brush (unless of course there is only one Tea Party group in the area.

You know, as much as I hate the Tea Party, I do think it's sucky to ban all members based on their political affiliation. Unless by "Tea Party" you meant those particular members. Because if that's the case, than I'm all for it because they were being real assholes.

I should've been clearer I'm pretty sure the manager has banned all members of this particular Tea Party group. Having said that, I'm pretty sure they are the only Tea Party group in the area.

No word on if the manager is pursuing legal remedies for the "Theft" or not.

The manager should write a letter to the local news paper explaining what they did and asking if all tea partiers in the state are like that. He should emphasize that the waiters, all hardworking locals, got stiffed, and since they only get paid so much per hour, ask why the tea partiers were trying to take food out of their children's mouths---that he thought only the government did that to the people.

That's what I would do, anyway. But I'm evil like that.

                Brilliant!

Meanwhile, the whole time I'm reading the OP's story, I'm reminded of all the church groups that used to come into the pizza joint that I waited on. It seems most teabaggers partiers seem to be uber-religious, and I'm really hoping that this is a coincidence
