I could almost understand the "joke" defense if they were hitting him somewhere else, if it was a smack, or something lighter. But a full on hook punch to the face is a completely different story.

It's a lot easier to break someone's jaw than people think. It's one of the reasons why mouthguards are a requirement for fighters.

This was nothing more than some punk trying to look tough by picking on someone that can't or won't fight back.


And oh.... Is it just me or did it look like the school official was trying not to laugh?

Saw this on the news tonight. Interview with the kid broke my heart.

The police said charges couldn't be filed since there was no bloodshed. So apparently, in order for it to be assault, you have to bleed. This is news to me and everyone who has even a basic understanding of law.

The school suspended those involved so really, there isn't a ton left they can do other than keeping an eye on the kid. But the police should do something. And if the video is on youtube, save it and sue the shit out of the douchebags.

Kid draws a picture of a gun or writes the word "gun" on their notebook? Suspended indefinitely and up for expulsion, since he/she is the next Columbine waiting to happen.

Kid blasts another kid in the head with a right hook? A five-day vacation from school and no charges filed.

Priorities: We're doing it wrong. That school district doesn't give two shits about bullying. Had the video never come out, nothing would have happened.

Been there; a group of bullies sent me home crying many times (ironically, this was in one of the "best" school districts; up in Montpelier even the 'village characters' looked out for me). It escalated to what would today be called sexual harassment (but KIDS aren't capable of that!....oh really <_< ); mom took me out in the yard and showed me how to throw a punch. Next time they started in I hauled off and almost broke the leader's nose...yup, I get pulled into the office. I think mom had to threaten the school with a harassment suit (the little psychos were calling our house and leaving obscene messages; we had been reporting them and the school laughed it off) to 'convince' them to not suspend me.

Meh, bullying is such a subjective term anyway. If you're a mentally challenged student raping the first graders, it's not bullying. If you laugh at the mentally challenged kid falling down, it's bullying, unless you're the captain of the basketball team. Then you find someone else who was laughing and punish that kid. It's ok for Dr. Watson's son to punch you in the face, but shoving him away is also considered bullying.

Man, I miss high school.

Laughing at anyone, even the special needs kid, who fell down isn't bullying. Pushing him, to make him fall down specifically because he's special needs is.

A former co-worker had a problem with her mildly autistic son being beaten up at school, pretty much daily. So she sued the school. Now the school has to pay to hire a taxi to pick him up and drop him off at his home every single day because she showed that they were ignoring the problem.

I used to get bullied by the special needs kids. cuz most of them weren't actually as clueless as they pretended. I get beat up, they pretend it's because I'm a big scary monster, I get sent home, dad yells at me for bullying special needs kids. then I come back to school, special needs kid pretends I look scary to him again, cries, I get sent home again, and sent into counciling because why do I keep picking on the special needs kids? Obviously I have some kind of hate issue, because no one ever, EVER lies and says they were bullied. That just never happens in the history of the world!

How can you be bullied by special needs kids?

Don't get me wrong, I have a "special" neighbor who once tried to get into my apartment and constantly peeps out his window to watch me smoke because he knows when I'm outside.

But perhaps I'm just ignorant on the bullying thing. I can see where someone who isn't all there can think someone likes them more than they really do, I can see how people like my neighbor can get intrusive without a second thought, but I just cannot fathom someone of special needs actually bullying someone. I can't.

Imagine a regular student bullying someone. Picking on them, shoving them into lockers, tripping them, punching them when no one is looking.

Now imagine Lenny from Of Mine and Men doing it. As a school child, still freakishly huge with terminator strength. It doesn't matter what his intention or thought process is. It doesn't matter to the kid getting his chest crushed because Lenny wants to reenact what he saw on Monday Night Raw or something.

Now imagine, while your chest is being crushed, because Lenny is jumping up and down on you, laughing at your plight, imagine that your final act of desperation before blacking out from pain is to yell "GET OFF ME YOU RETARD!"

Now imagine Lenny breaking down in tears. The teacher, who's been watching the entire time, suddenly snaps out of her alcoholic stupor and comes running over to you to grab you by the arm and drag you inside for terrorising poor Lenny.

And now the final straw - as you're being led away, the teacher already tlaking of expulsion and calling your parents and other horrible things, you glance back and see Lenny grinning from ear to ear because he knows he just fucked you and got away with it.

But you're right. I guess that's 100% my fault. I should've been able to run faster than Lenny!
