  • Officer body-slams woman, "acted appropriately"....

    Link: http://miami.cbslocal.com/2011/03/29...beach-arrests/

Personally, it's not like she was hurt (she was on a soft service), and if she had a gun she for sure would have shot at the cop. He did what he had to do. Doesn't matter that she was white, she could have been any color.

However, one has to wonder: if she was not white, people would make a much bigger deal about this, and soon there would be 2 camera-whore faux-reverends demanding the officer be fired and arrested for police brutality.

Another view of the events from just prior to the throw-down on.

    1/4 at YouTube

The woman fled, resisted arrest, and even with one wrist cuffed is still trying to run. I don't believe she would have been violent at any part, as it's most likely she's trying to get away from an event that is likely going to fuck up her life down the road (if she's the same Sara Greenback from MD's who LinkedIn profile I found, she's an intern teacher - a drunken arrest would not bode well).

It's possible that the officer could have planted her on the ground with less force, but I don't think she really gave him any option.

The crowd is violent the whole time, and I'm pretty sure if it weren't for the fact that there were at least two security guards there with him, it would have gotten uglier than it already was.

That doesn't look like an unreasonable amount of force to me.

People like a narrative where the cop's a bad guy. Because cops are the representatives of authority we deal with most often. Its very cathartic when cops get caught doing bad things.

Honestly, he was doing his job. His job is to arrest people who are breaking laws. If they try to run away, his job is to stop them. That's not unreasonable at all.

By the way, THIS is a body slam. What the cop did was not.

Pencil this in as another sensationalist, misleading headline for the sake of sensationalism and ratings over truth and responsibility.

That's a scoop slam, though in pro wrestling its the move most commonly called a body slam, as most other moves have specific names. A body slam is any slam where a person is propelled forcefully downwards, rather than being tripped.

While what the cop did was technically a body slam, body slam is such a generic term. It just SOUNDS bad.

I honestly think it's more just that the cop used physical force on a woman. Somehow, this isn't okay to people, even though she broke the law and also ran from the police.

I'm sorry, don't break the law and you won't have to deal with the police. I had a black woman dropped off at my store because the racist police of X pulled her over. If i wasn't white I might have been able to say, I'm sorry but I just heard you acknowledge to your friend that your plates are in fact expired and have been for sometime, and by the way this is night time they couldn't have possibly seen you are black, BUT that your license plate tag is last years color and since it is now 2 months into the year, you have had plenty of time to correct said issue.

I don't think enough people understand the stress of being a police officer and the dangers it carries. Sometimes you have to put people down hard and fast so there is no chance for them to keep resisting. The local cops actually have been cleared in the few shootings they have had lately which met with outrage because one was an "elderly black woman", they left out the part where she was out of her mind and threatening to kill the officers, but only tried attacking them with scissors, "deadly force was uncalled for". I got a graphic forward before can't find it where it was a HIGHLY trained officer as in martial arts training who went against a guy who only had a knife and nearly got killed. They showed his back all sliced up and the hundreds of stiches he needed. Imagine carving up a roast and trying to sew it back up.

They pretty much need to assume you will do anything to hurt them and they won't be safe until your in cuffs and calm.

That was barely a slam, on sand, it couldn't have hurt much if at all and in that sort of situationYou have to head off resistance pretty quickly or all hell could break loose, and I agree with INH, don't break the law and stuff like that won't happen to you.

One thing I forgot, officers have split second to make life or death decisions the public has years to criticize over choices they will never make and complain that your too ruff.

Sure Rodney King was fucked up, but this body slam was nothing. I love how jurys consist of our peers, but like many cops I know say, a jury is nothing more than 12 people too stupid to get out of jury duty.
