Thanks, the original comment confused me because I knew my schools was costing lots of money, especially with the new athletic center they built. I would hope that after he gets done with the NBA, any potential employeer would be aware of the bullshit and laugh in his face.

There are still 20-ish schools in the country where the athletics program turns a profit and actually gives the excess funds back to the school. It's the vast, vast majority, but I'm sure that UCONN is among that group.

This sort of thing makes me see red.

I always assumed that this sort of thing was just exaggerated, but that changed a few months ago. As a Senior in High School, I'm going (well, went) through the College Admissions process. I took the hardest classes available, made decent (A- to B+) grades, all sorts of clubs, and all that jazz. The only non-AP class I had this year was an "Advanced" Algebra class. Our first test was over order of operations, so I blew through it in three minutes and settled in for my nap.

The guy behind me made a 0 (percentage-based grading)! Throughout the ENTIRE FUCKING CLASS he bitched and whined about how hard the class was, and passed with a 70 (the bare minimum). You guys, he's getting a full ride to DUKE UNIVERSITY! I applied, and got rejected, but Mr. God's-Gift-to-Basketball get's a full ride!

Hmm... I wonder how the local papers would feel about that? I know I'd be pissed.

              Hell, I am pissed.

If Duke bases their admissions on how athletic you are and not how smart you are, do you REALLY want to go there?

Actually, I'm betting that the local papers are shitting themselves over the fact that a local boy is going to one of the best basketball schools in the nation.

                    You're probably right. >_<

It's BS that they have to go to college to get into the NBA, anyway.

It's only to make them have the appearance of being "concerned about the education of today's youth" or some other BS.

I did know someone who went to the UW on a full ride basketball scholarship, but oops it did not state in his scholarship papers that he had to PLAY basketball for UW. He didn't even try out, he actually wanted the education, and got it. Sadly I am well aware he was the exceedingly rare exception and not the rule.

Also my first husband's cousin did play for UW basketball, and started his law degree whilst doing so, gave up the game when his classes demanded more of his time.

add in the fact that, in college, they sign away ALL rights to their IMAGES (as in video game type stuff AND highlight films) in perpetuity.
