This kid has balls. Just think if he'd been in the USA. He'd have been suspended for being a "distraction", and would have been forced to have seen a psychiatrist, and would have ended up on Ritalin or something.

I wear pants to work even though it's hot as hell out already. Do I do it for fun? Hell no, I do it so I don't splash explosives/acids/carcinogenic chemicals on my legs. You bet your ass I'm wearing shorts the second I'm out of there. It's a matter of comfort. If you want me to sit still, not get distracted, and not be disrupting in class, I just ask to be comfortable.

The uniform skirt is rather kiltish in design. Wide pleats and all that. Rather unisex, actually.
I move all schools with uniforms adopt the design!I have a drawing of an orange, which proves I am a semi-tangible collection of pixels forming a somewhat coherent image manifested from the intoxicated mind of a madman. Naturally.

That said, if they tried pulling that down here in Ausland, they wouldn't get very far. Even the most expensive private school in my state (Scotch College, Adelaide) allows shorts in summer-although for boys only, not so much for girls (it's either a dress or pleated skirt). The high school I went to (one of the most popular public schools down south) originally only allowed skirts for girls and shorts for boys, but eventually started allowing shorts for girls as well. I went with the skirt for Year 10 and half of Year 11, after that, I gave up and wore the very thin uniform pants all through the rest of my time there.

That is awesome. He looks great in a skirt.
If they really have concerns about appropriateness, why not just make it so the shorts/skirt/whatever have to be a certain length?"And I won't say "Woe is me"/As I disappear into the sea/'Cause I'm in good company/As we're all going together"

We weren't allowed to wear shorts at all at my old high school. Worse yet, there was no air conditioning, except in the office.
One year, we experienced a severe heatwave, and the student council asked the principal to suspend the no-shorts rule just until the heatwave passed. And from his nice, cool, air-conditioned office, he told us "no." Bastard.

As to private school uniforms, they're all pretty much the same, summer uniform is short sleeved button shirt and shorts with optional jumper if it gets cold, winter uniform is pants, long sleeve button shirt, tie and blazer, you can wear either uniform at any time but it has to be the complete uniform, no mixing and matching. I'm pretty sure it would be impossible to ban shorts in Australia though.Last edited by Nyoibo; 05-11-2011, 03:59 AM.I am a sexy shoeless god of war!

Is that a normal style of office wear or just a one off?
edit:
I kinda gathered it would be a UK school, but as I don't read the local rag (or any news paper) I didn't know it was just north of me, might even be on the map without looking at my A-Z wall poster.

Aren't you just referring to a high-waisted skirt? Those aren't scandalous. They've been incredibly trendy the last few years. I wore them to work frequently for a while, because the style made it easy to keep your blouse tucked in.
I think they're going out of fashion now. I haven't seen them in stores lately.

They just remind me of fat man trousers that go over the beer gut and with the skirt so high it gave me a mental image that her crotch was higher as in just below her breasts hence the smilie (and I dont have a selection box for them now, is that only when you select quote?) I swear any higher and she could have tucked it under her boobs.

They really only look good on very slim/slender women. Quite frankly, I've never understood why any woman with any curve to her bottom half whatsoever would dare wear waistlines that high. It gives you a pouch around your crotch (which I call a FUPA or a gunt) and is gross looking, even if you have a flat tummy. In fact, I believe those higher waist lines, well they may have been designed for tummy control, really don't help at all.

Yeah, I can see how those skirts might be unflattering on someone with a bit of a paunch.
Back on topic, I don't agree with different dress codes for men and women. At my workplace, men used to be required to wear a tie. Women, on the other hand, could wear a blouse without a tie. I saw no difference between a man's dress shirt and a women's dress blouse as far as formality went, so I was pleased when they changed the dress code to allow men to go without the tie.
In this case, I think they banned shorts because they're too casual. However, skirts are not casual. So unless they want to get into gender discrimination, they're shit out of luck if a boy decides to wear one.Last edited by Boozy; 05-11-2011, 06:01 PM.

I like that we have a gender nutural (albeit trouser based) uniform, no shirts and ties or fancy shmancy stuff.
It would be nice if those shorter than the trousers they selected rolled the damn things up*, the odd times I get a pair that fit (too many could fit two of me inside and I'm not THAT thin and the other good ones are hoarded in lockers) the ankles are ripped and even with washing dingy as the previous wearer let them hang under the heel of their shoes.
I don't recall girls having the option to wear trousers at school, or if it was available no one took it up that I recall, although sports shorts were in use. While I agree that a school uniform negates any stigmata for not having X brand clothes, it should be flexible for all weathers. IIR even in class we had to wear our blazers even in summer, making me hate it and the idea of wearing a suit, atleast at work in an office there is a high chance it will be hung up or over a chair, only those dealing with the public need to wear corporate blazers at all times. Not once however, do I ever recall shorts in summer, mind you I spent 3rd-5th year oop norf and summers didn't seem as hot as here, but with my legs, no thank you.
*Making me think my above skirt reference was bought longer than needed and instead of returning it for a shorter one it was just hiked up.

Those are school shorts on a private school uniform. I do not see why the school could have just insisted on selling them in the uniform shop if they have one.

I mean, those are bare legs. Bare legs are casual.
I assume that the school's skirts are intended to be worn with hose. If the school doesn't require hosiery, then they really don't have a leg to stand on. Hardy-har-har.
