Is that woman out of her mind?! Does anyone even know the long-term effects of Botox? And how many eight-year-olds need to worry about wrinkles, for pity's sake?

This superficial dumbass desperately needs psychiatric help. And, sadly, her brainwashed daughter probably does, too.

This is horrific and child abuse. A parent is responsible for protecting their child from harm. This woman is potentially causing harm. I highly doubt that botox was ever tested or approved for use on children. I am also appalled that anyone would agree to perform such a procedure on a child. Where are the ethics here?

actually Glados I think the mother was giving the kid the injections herself. and in that
of which is even worse because the fact that mom gave it to her because no doctor in their right mind would do so. the other question is how did mom OBTAIN said botox injections? even if she was or was not a nurse because by law when a botox injection is to be given two people have to be in the room. (correct me if wrong) the person giving the injection IE dr and another person/nurse

The authorities are investigating the case: http://moms.today.com/_news/2011/05/...tion?GT1=43001

San Francisco’s Human Services Agency received numerous calls from people worried about Britney’s safety and is now investigating. City health official Trent Roher says he'll sit down and talk with the mom and daughter, the Associated Press reports.

Herself? That's even worse. I have two beautiful daughters and I cannot imagine ever taking something like that into my own hands. I wonder if this woman has ever thought about how she will feel if something goes wrong and it is at her own hand?

I am glad that this will be investigated. It will hopefully get the word out to other parents who may consider this that it is NOT OK. I would hope that parents can figure this out for themselves but this story says otherwise.

You think she gives a crap if something goes wrong? The woman is a psycho living some freakish beauty contest fantasy through her poor daughter.

I can't stand child pageants in any case, and this freak is a dangerously extreme version of why. Are their daughters even people to them anymore? Not to her, I'd wager.

I'm of the opinion that all kiddy-pageant moms should have a full psych evaluation before their daughters can be thrust into that meat market. Of course, if they did that, they'd likely have to bar a good number of their participants, so we can't have that, now, can we?

                  Good Grief!!!

AFAIK, only a licensed dermatologist is allowed to legally administer these shots, as Botox is a form of botulism (if I read correctly.) I can't see any valid reason WHY an 8 year old should be getting these shots. But then again, I don't see any reason why that stuff should even be legal (look at Joan Rivers as a prime example of too much) but that's another rant for another day.

The mother seriously needs a psychiatric evaluation and a

It really does vary state by state. I was stunned at the things unlicensed people could do in California as regards to hair removal. Botox really doesn't surprise me all that much given the money involved.

She could have gotten it on the black market, the way athletes get steroids. I can't imagine what she had to go through to give this to her kid though. Ouch!

Again, it does vary state by state. You are right that Botox is a refined version of the toxin produced by Clostridium botulanium, the organism that causes botulism.

There's some evidence pointing towards adverse long term effects in frequent users of Botox, including permanent paralysis of certain facial muscles. Studies are ongoing. I have a feeling it may be pulled off the market in future years. The risks outweigh the benefits IMHO.

And this mother is definitely a candidate for a diagnosis of narcissist personality disorder: it's really all about her, not the kid.
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

I couldn't agree more. It says a lot about people that they are so vain that they are willing to inject POISON into their faces to prevent wrinkles!!!

That's how Botox works; it's a poison that paralyzes facial muscles. What happens when those muscles, poisoned over and over and over, finally die? Don't know about anyone else, but I'd rather have a wrinkled face than a rotting one.

Just think, in a couple hundred years, people are going to think back and say, "Wow, do you remember when people used to inject poison into their faces to try to look younger? What were we thinking? Man people back then were dumb." It'll happen.

Pretty much the same thing we say now about tight-laced corsets, foot binding, lead makeup and other things done historically for "beauty". So yeah, there really is nothing new under the sun.

This child is going to have an incredibly messed up body image, and I really feel for her. It really does just make me sad.

Her entire self worth is going to be based on whether or not others find her beautiful. And she may not be beautiful. And she certainly won't stay that way if she gets lucky and IS beautiful. We all age and lose our looks. If that's all a person has going for them, what will happen then?

I have a beautiful daughter. Everyone says so, to me and to her. Frankly, I wish they'd knock it off. I wish they could see her artistic talent and her sense of humor instead. I don't want her to think that is where her value is, regardless of what anyone else thinks. I don't want her to fret that maybe she won't be beautiful enough. Maybe puberty will be kind to her and maybe it won't. It wasn't kind to me. What if she thinks "I'm not beautiful anymore, so I'm not worth anything?"

That is exactly what that idiot woman is doing to her own daughter. And when she's dead from anorexia, suicide, or drugs, the woman is going to wonder what went wrong.
