  • Cops kick cellphone blabbermouth off train

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/43078616...ain/?GT1=43001

I agree with the decision to kick her off the train. I can't believe someone would talk on their cell phone constantly for 16 hours, especially after knowing other passengers were complaining, and doing it in a car called "the quiet car" nonetheless. Some people have no consideration or respect for others.

She broke the rules and got punished? How horrible!

No sympathy here on this one. People like her that incessantly and loudly blather away on their phones need to be kicked out. We don't give two shits about your conversation on the other end, just either be discreet or don't use your phone. Simple as that.

Would a phone battery last that long under constant use?

It depends on the phone. My first phone was a $25 no frills phone, and while I don't do a lot of talking on the phone, I could go a couple of weeks between charges, with it on the entire time.

Without a screen to power, and with the only sound being the voice on the other end, it doesn't take a lot to power one.

They ironically had a power point for phones (and laptops) on the silent carrage she was on.

I didn't use my phone at all for calls to or from Manchester (just used the mp3 part of it at a hopefully not too loud level), the odd text giving an ETA till I had no signal without powering down, originally thought it was a black spot as we were in the middle of no where and had been 1 bar for most of the journey.
Then on the way back I watched till the battery died my little blue dot move across google maps.

Kicking her off the train was the right thing to do. I try to limit my cell conversation in even the non-quiet cars, using one in a quiet car is just damn rude. Just another "the rules don't apply to ME" cell phone EW.

It's kind of ironic as I am reading this on the California Zephyr. And Amtrak seems very zero tolerance towards that kind of thing.

Not really. All the basic cars will be the same... that way they can swap them out as necessary.

Well, after all, does "silent car" mean you aren't allowed to read, or watch a movie (with earplugs, quiet enough for others not to hear), etc? Of course they *do* use the same car, but even aside from that, why shouldn't someone be able to use their laptop or *charge* their phone, so long as they're not making noise with it?

I am not if there is a silent car as they group people by destination but after 10 or so until 6, they expect you to be quiet. You can watch movies with headphones. If you must use your phone, they suggest the lounge car. As Insaid, they are not very tolerant to people not listening to them.
