  • Education department sends SWAT teams now?

This guy says a SWAT team busted through his door at 6AM over defaulted student loans.

However, the department of education claims that it wasn't a student loan, but fraud (they were searching for his wife). Still sounds excessive, especially since it wasn't even him they were looking for. (was it necessary to detain him for 6 hours?). And is it really necessary for the department of education to make these calls?

I've actually been through the serving of a warrant, only in my case it was served against my company.

Yes, they will detain you for the entirety of the search. This is SOP and required so that until they have finished, you can't contact someone else to have then destroy evidence.

This article on an ABC affiliate station includes a link to a copy of the search warrant itself.

I find most of the reports, dated the same day or after the one I linked, have bad info. They mention his kids watching from the house, but the agents woke all three and placed them in the car with him. They also keep trying to claim it was the local SWAT, but he'd already gone to the city and learned that it was a federal action by then, which could have been confirmed by any of those purported "news" agents by a single call to said police department.

Honestly, if this guy wants an apology, he needs to have a chat with his estranged wife, who is the suspect of the investigation and whose official residence appears to be listed as that house.
