Casey Anthony Jurors not allowed in local business.
I keep wondering if it was the Grandmother who actaully killed her granddaughter.
And sometimes I wonder if one of those jurors thought the same thing...and then I'm glad I was released from the only jury I was ever put on in my short life. I couldn't do it...couldn't go through a major case like that, I would be on pins and needles.
I was in a jury pool once never made it to the trial but was there during the selection process and this bugged me. The question that got people disqualified was they would ask, "Do you feel that drugs should be legalized?" If you answered yes to the question you were promptly dismissed.
Now if the crime in question had been a drug possession then yes these people may have a bias that prevents them from voting guilty even if the facts clearly state the guy is because they don't feel it should be illegal.
However when the case is that the person was driving under the influence then the fact of how you feel about whether drugs should be legal is as pointless as if you feel that alcohol should be legal.
For example I feel that alcohol is fine and should be enjoyed by mature adults. However that in no way translates into "Yeah dude your innocent it shouldn't be illegal to drive while high off your gourd"
And assuming that someone who felt drugs should be legal would think, "And they should be driving while doing them." is a disservice to the justice system and makes me doubt the selection process.
"Driving under the influence" doesn't always mean "driving under the influence of alcohol."
I know that in fact he drove under the influence of drugs other than alcohol which was said.
That's not the point. The point is that saying my feelings on whether or not a drug should be legalized has any bearing on my feeling that driving under the influence is wrong is like saying if I feel it's okay to own a gun then I must feel that the guy should go free for committing armed robbery.
One has nothing to do with the other. They are not tied together at all.
If you really want to go ridiculous ask a potential juror, "Do you believe Sex should be illegal" and boot off any juror that says no because it's a rape case and obviously if the person doesn't want to make sex illegal they must think rape is okay.
The point is that saying my feelings on whether or not a drug should be legalized has any bearing on my feeling that driving under the influence is wrong is like saying if I feel it's okay to own a gun then I must feel that the guy should go free for committing armed robbery.
He was agreeing with you.
All he was saying is that even if drugs were completely legalized, it's already illegal to drive under the influence, no matter what you're under the influence of, whether it be alcohol, other drugs, or even regular medicine.

Faith is about what you do. It's about aspiring to be better and nobler and kinder than you are. It's about making sacrifices for the good of others. - Dresden
Ah my bad it felt like he was pointing out that the fact under the influence indicated he was under drugs that I was missing how the lawyer felt it was relevant.
