The police over here post on the 'net where they're going to be operating portable speed cameras. They still catch many drivers.

Let's be fair about it - the only people who would go to such a site regularly are those planning on speeding. The vast majority of people don't go on a journey for any reason than to get to the other end. They usually don't drive on the public roads with the intent of going really fast. Some, sure, but most people get that out of their system by the time they hit puberty.

How many people actually plan on driving drunk? Can't see it aiding any other than the most hardcore drink drivers.

My ex, who had 4 DUIs by age 22, claimed to be an awesome buzzed driver and could evade the police under any circumstance. Yeah, smarter than any cop.

And it was some woman's fault he got one DUI, because she called him on for cutting her off on the freeway. And it was his vehicle's fault for his last one, because it wasn't good enough to handle going around curves that fast being operated by a totally smashed driver.

Go figure. Eh?

I've never seen any kind of social networking tools that show checkpoints, and the last I knew of, he never had any type of phone with that kind of app.

The only checkpoint I know of, is on New Years and it's by the university.

The hardcore drunks think they always have it figured out. But they're also the dumbest ones who go out drinking on parole/probation and get into cars with fellow drunks who have expired tags or vehicle problems that warrant being pulled over.

I've always noticed the ones who get caught are the casuals. You'll see someone crawl from the bar, puking every inch of the way, lurch into his car and then scrape other cars on his way out. Nope, he's fine!

Then there's the guy who's technically over the limit but still in full control of himself, he gets nailed. Aint that always the way....

I have no problem with posting the info publicly anyway. There's plenty of legit reasons why would want to know where road blocks are. Maybe I have a 9:30 reservation at the olive garden and I want to get there on time. Do I take Route 192 or hop on Route 1? Oh wait Route 1 has a roadblock, there's an extra 20 minutes on my time, lets take 192.

DUI checkpoints are a pain in the ass, but it can save lives from preventing those that are too tanked to drive from wrecking themselves and others on the road. I wouldn't be so sure about the checkpoint info being correct on Facebook since that can always change. When I was 4 (I vaguely remember it but my parents told me) we got hit by a drunk driver, thankfully we came out okay with no scratches but it scared my little sis (she was 2 a the time). I've heard of so many accidents and deaths when I grew up in FL that were caused by drunk driving that could've easily been prevented. So you have to pick your car up the day after or pay out the ass for towing, but it's better than paying with your life and the lives of others!

On that note though, who really needs to check out facebook? In New Jersey, the police have to announce all their checkpoints in advance. They are always posted in the newspaper so you can just check there for checkpoints.

I just about got stopped for trying to bypass a DUI checkpoint. I was way to sober to wait for the 35 people in front of me to clear. So instead of flying up to a dead stop, I turned down the first available side street and instead of making the left I needed to get back the direction I was going, I paid my grandma a visit on that street.... They happened to have 4 cops setup in that parking lot as well but without the fancy portable lights and road cones. I figured intended to hassle anyone they noticed bypassing the traffic jam. But seriously, they don't want to find drunk people it is a lot of paper work and pisses of the tax payers.

We just had our German American Festival, you know the best place where if you wanted to run a DUI checkpoint out of and actually protect some drivers. I was told they did setup one, on the other end of town where a majority of the traffic wouldn't be at.

It's been said before, but I'll repeat it here: a cab is always cheaper than a DUI!

Here in Australia our cops use breathalysers country wide, so stopping at the Booze Bus takes hardly any time at all, (unless of course you blow .05 or above which is the legal limit).. It's really not an inconvenience at all.

From watching American movies and tv shows I assumed you didn't have them in the US, I always see people performing field sobriety tests... Until I got pulled over while driving back from a bar in Vermont a few years ago, the cop breathalised me!! I was so shocked, I even made some jerk comment of "oh wow I didn't think you guys had these here!" Cop was a little non plussed at that to say the least lol!

What I don't get is, if you have them why don't all cops use them?? Much faster, and more accurate!

Oh and I don't agree with people posting info on where the Booze Buses are, let the drunk drivers get caught as they should! Those who aren't doing anything wrong will have nothing to fear!

That can be a very dangerous way of thinking. Not wanting to be stopped does not equal guilty.

I say let them get stopped on their own merits. If they're too drunk to drive they will get stopped. If they're not and drive like a sober person they'll make it home like a sober person.

I never said that, I'm just saying it's not a very big inconvenince, and those who make a fuss about it probably have something to hide (not always I know, sometimes people are just self entitled jerks who think they shouldnt be treated like everyone else) they may not be driving drunk, but perhaps their vehicle is unregistered, perhaps they are unlicenced whater... if you've done nothing wrong you have nothing to fear and you'll be on your way in less than a minute.. ok maybe 2... not a big deal in my book...

Driving drunk is a crime, so what if you managed to avoid killing someone this time, you avoided slamming into a tree this time, you didn't run someone off the road this time... why should we have to wait until you do before the cops pull you over, why wait until you have a near miss?

I can have a couple beers with dinner and not blow over the legal limit.. if you can't handle a couple beers with dinner without getting drunk, then don't drive to dinner... Why is this such a difficult concept for some people? You want to have drinks, without worrying about being over, then take a taxi.. if you want to drive then I'm afraid you need to watch your ass and watch how much you drink before getting behind the wheel....

No one is saying you can't drink, just don't fricken drive if you've had too many! and if you're not sure, better to be safe than sorry.. and before you ask how are they supposed to know if they're over, a lot of venues here have breathalysers available for about a dollar, so you can check yourself before you leave.. and if they don't, just use your head... If you have any doubt, just don't do it...
