Agreed, there is not a child alive in this country who hasn't heard of Christ (it's impossible not to learn about Christianity), so at best this is a wasted effort, at worst it is an attempt to undermine how a parent is raising their child (if/when I adopt I intend to teach the child to think for themselves about any higher power/order in the universe... if they happen to come to the conclusion that Christianity/Judeasm/Islam/(insert religion here) is right, all the more power to them, but I'll be damned if I have someone else come in and say "no, that isn't acceptable, you must force them to believe in Christ")

I'm not so sure, at least hell houses you kind of have a good indication of what to expect (gee, there's a new haunted house that no one has heard of before... and none of the local personalities have said anything about it... maybe I should keep my distance)... this guy, no you have no warning about it until you have the misfortune of knocking on his door (unless you have the very good fortune of getting their right after someone who is really pissed is leaving).

Here's my suggested alternative activity: just not participating. Seriously, don't like it? Don't take part. There's no reason to try to ruin a perfectly fine holiday.

To which those people just prove they don't know the first thing about Catholicism.

Hmm. I know they frown on Christmas and birthdays, but I never got the impression they were against Thanksgiving or patriotic holidays.

My best friend (a devout Roman Catholic) married a Jehovah's Witness. Her mother in law was a killjoy, iirc . . . .
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

We had two Witnesses working with us for a while. The only celebration they have is for wedding anniversaries, which makes no sense to me.

I had two friends who were JW in high school ( or their parents wanted them to be, rather ). Holidays sucked for them since they got to watch everyone else having a good time but do nothing themselves. Plus they were forced to do missionary work aka door to door annoying people. Which was doubly embarrassing for them since it was a fairly small town so they're just going around to the same people over and over. Many of whom were classmates.

Neither of them ended up well adjusted really. >.>

Holidays mean what those celebrating them want them to mean, no more and no less and regardless of where the idea may have come from.
I didn't say it was only for Catholics but it is a holiday that is Catholic in origin.

My parents never approved of trick or treating. Instead, we'd go out to Red Lobster as a treat (which has now become a tradition for 10+ years running ), and then we would go to our church's "harvest party." Yeah, that's what our church did instead of this...shit. Just threw a party. There was some religious stuff (like name the ten commandments and you get candy, things like that), but really you just played games for candy, there was a cake walk...it was just fun.

If I were a kid who just got handed a Bible, I'd throw it through his window or set it on fire. I, and my hypothetical non-existent children, certainly don't need religion forced upon me/us by some twat.

If he doesn't believe in the holiday, then just shut his damn door and turn out his lights and say a prayer for them.
                  Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

Halloween is slowly starting to pick up down here in Australia, although people are already screaming about the "Unwanted American influence." (yet they don't mind americans studying here, americans livig here, americans getting jobs here...but switch it to Asian or Middle eastern, or refugee and people start sharpening their pitchforks....)

I would love to go to a church "harvest party" though, it looks like fun (and I can also name most of the 10 commandments, albeit not in order, also YMMV depending on denomination: i was raised protestant: The Lord is our God, Thou shalt not make graven images, Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy, Honor thy mother and thy father, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet thy neighbours wife, Thou shalt not covet thy neighbours goods, There are no other Gods before me)

                    Where's my cookie?

"Jesusween" almost sounds like it would be the name of an organized effort to get groups of people to go out as Zombie Jesus for Halloween. I think I'd support that idea in this pastor's neighborhood.

Hmmm.... I imagine that if you didn't fit the Jesus appearance profile you could find a couple of friends and go as zombie wise men. Or if you're female, you've got zombie Mary (either one, tho mom is more recognizable). Hell, with enough people you could do a zombie nativity or zombie last supper.

Find a friend of middle-eastern descent and have him go as "historically accurate Jesus" to really cause some fundamentalist meltdowns.

actually, when I first heard of it, all I saw was the name and I thought that it sounded like it could be an organization to ween people off of Jesus.

Oh dear. You'd cause about half the nation to meltdown or be dying of laughter with that one.

Oh, that would be just too damn funny. Pity I have to work this weekend and don't have time to set something like that up in my front yard. Will have to file idea for next year
