Admittedly, I'm a lapsed Catholic. Far lapsed. I only go to mass on Christmas when I'm visiting my parents and my mother guilts me into going.

That said, I'm...pretty sure we didn't/don't 'worship' Mary and/or the Pope.

Do some of these nutjob fundies really think Catholics do that?

Back OT, this guy is a prime example of why so many people have problems with Christians and Christianity.

Like Ree said; if you don't like the holiday, close the damned door and pray for their souls!

Good God, but we're becoming a society of freakin' busybodies, aren't we?

That really does sum it up, doesn't it? Jesusween, the "War On Christmas", "Protecting Marriage", etc. They're all products of people who just can't seem to comprehend that their religion is not everyone elses and/or are deadset on forcing their religion on everyone else because they're "right" or converting everything else into Christian friendly version. They put in time and effort to try and convert everything around them to comply with their worldview.

Why can't people just leave well enough alone and stay out of other people's lives? -.-

Depending on the church, you might get an applause. Not all of them are fundie churches after all.

Yeah...there are. I spent a bit of high school convincing people I didn't. I overheard conversations from the Christian clubs in the college cafeteria stating that we do. I met a youth pastor at a non-denominational church, who was a "reformed" Christian from Catholicism, who believed that's what we did.

And if you try to tell them different from Tradition, they just shout you down with Biblical references.

The church I went to as a teenager got pretty uptight about Halloween. One guy at our church distributed this Chick Tract and got most people scared of the holiday.

              http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0058/0058_01.asp

He got everyone believing that it was a day when Satanists and pagans practiced human sacrifice, and he admonished everyone to avoid the holiday and never take their kids trick-or-treating. I can remember my mom saying that she thought it was interesting that most of the people in the church who were against trick-or-treating either didn't have kids or had kids who were past the age of trick-or-treating.

Nevertheless, the church still had a Halloween party where people dressed up in costumes, some of them scary ones. Go figure.

Yeah, I was raised by a pretty religious mother (Protestant, though, not nearly as restrictive as Catholic seems to be) and we had lots of fun on Halloween as kids.

What ruined Halloween for us, was usually snow.

At the very least, they could have come up with a more creative name for it. There's nothing creative about taking the "Hallow" off and replacing it with "Jesus." If Jesus's name were Willow or Mellow, then it would have a neat ring to it, because it would be Willoween or Melloween, and it would kind of rhyme with Halloween. Jesusween, on the other hand, doesn't even roll off the tongue very nicely.

Personally, I don't care if they want to celebrate something else on October 31. Do whatever you want. I do, however, take issue with the smarmy victim complex being displayed. Here's an example in the About section.

Every year, the world and its system have a day set aside (October 31st) to celebrate ungodly images and evil characters while Christians all over the world participate, hide or just stay quiet on Halloween day.
First of all, the same freedom that allows you to practice your religion and have your "Jesusween" allows other people to celebrate Halloween if they wish. Also, there's nothing "evil" about dressing up like a devil a goblin a ghost a vampire or anything else. It's just a costume. Breathe easy, and quit dumping on other people's fun.

Trying to tell people what THEY believe is a bad idea all around.

A guy Mom was seeing for a while, when they were together, insisted to her that Baptists don't believe in the Holy Spirit. Mom, being a lifelong Baptist and a pastor's daughter, tried to explain that they do, but he wouldn't have any of it. I cannot honestly say I miss that guy...

Really? In my experience, Catholics are relatively sane. I've always thought Baptists were the nutty ones.

Willoween - A Halloween party or group costume based upon the movie "Willow." Requires at least one friend of small stature to play the title role.

Melloween - Everyone gets stoned before they go out for Halloween. Or don't go out, but instead stay home and eat candy while watching discount-bin horror movies because, well, you're stoned. Regardless, all involved are mellow.

I know I'm probably expecting too much to hope for any sort of accuracy whatsoever from a Chick Tract. But Michael threw Lucifer out of Heaven, not Jesus. Jesus wasn't even born yet and Jesus certainly didn't create angels. >.>

Michael did throw Lucifer out of Heaven, but Jesus was technically around then. And would've helped with the angels. Three-in-One aspects and all that.

The Temptations of Jesus should have been much more interesting then in a "Hey wait a sec, I remember your stupid ass" kind of way. -.- Also all supposed references to the Trinity come a long time after the whole Lucifer fall thing don't they?

Chick in particular is bad for using Jesus and God interchangeably, infact he does it in that very tract.

Well, technically, the whole Bible comes a long time after the whole Lucifer fall thing. The fall of Lucifer is held to be part of Tradition, not part of the Bible. There are references to the Trinity in Genesis and throughout the OT. The best way to say it is that the aspect of God as Jesus, Son of God and Man and Savior of the World wasn't in full play yet. God as Father and Creator was.
