One thing about legal prostitution: this is probably the one and only area, to my mind, where anti-discrimination laws ought not apply.

i think it means that you should still be able to pick-a-ho based on race, weight and boobsize. unlike a secretary. haha.

"Hi, Im here to interview for the a position?"

"Im sorry, your body type simply isn't in demand at this location. You need a bigger brasize. At least 20% bigger. "

It also should mean, "Sorry, you're too filthy dirty for me to consider having sex with. Come back when you've had a bath," or "OK, but I charge $20 because you have BO."
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

Don't forget the fact that there are men in the sex business, too. A lot of people think that it's just women who work on the streets.
"Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

Exactly. Each side can reject the other on any basis they like (or rather don't) and set conditions.

That makes a lot of sense, and would be necessary, I agree.....no reason to make either side interact with someone they found particularly unpleasant.

Holland allows that, actually. Some years ago, I took a red light district tour and sex toys and condoms are allowable as business expenses on tax forms. However, prostitution over there wasn't legal at the time, just tolerated, yet it was still taxed. That situation may have changed, but that's how the guide described it a decade past.

Edit to add: She also described how one worker had tried to claim breast enlargement on her tax form. The tax office allowed half the cost to go against her taxes, since she'd be using them outside work as well.

If prostitution were to be legalized, I'd prefer it to be set up like the ranches in Vegas. One location with a staff of sex workers, lots of security, very clean, etc. That would make it a hell of a lot easier to regulate.

Germany has had legalized prostitution for as long as I can remember. And we've still got bits of everything: streetwalking hookers, brothels, high-priced callgirls, Eastern European sex slaves... everything. Police cracks down on slave rings and forced prostitution but leaves the rest alone - provided they pay their taxes, of course.

Very few, though, and they mostly cater to men.

Women, it seems, aren't interested in paying for sex.

On another note, a colleague of mine told me a story last night of what his job was while he was stationed as an Army nurse in Korea.

Once a week he had to visit the brothels around the base and check the health paper work of the sex workers. If the prostitutes didn't have their paperwork in order, he could ban military personnel from that brothel.

He said all the prostitutes and madams knew him very well, and would greet him warmly on the street when he was off duty.

He also told me a story about how a prostitute was snuck on base once, and he was able to tell which soldier gave her an STD by tracking each john she visited in the dorms. Ie, he found Patient Zero

You'd be surprised; there are quite a few women who hire escorts. While it's true that in a lot of cases it's for company, it would be a lie to say that sex is never included. xD

That's also a case of discrimination; a lot of people wouldn't blink an eye at a woman hiring an escort. They'd just assume she hired him to talk. Whereas a man hiring a call girl would be sneered at, even if he only wanted company.

Definitely legalize it, regulate it, tax it!

If they're consenting adults, one person willing to offer their 'service' and one willing to pay for it, where's the issue! It's just tightass prudes who find it icky!

Don't like prostitutes, don't use one!

By legalizing it, they are going to clean it up.. get rid of pimps, still obviously crack down on illegal brothels, the sex slave trade etc.. But why oh why cant people open a nice clean brothel, have everyone tested regularly, conduct business in a safe secure environment, and everyone gets what they want.. money and a happy face!

Here where I live, prostitution is legal, in registered brothels. Streetwalking is still illegal, and there are still many illegal brothels, and sex slave trafficking is an issue, but this does not go unnoticed, cops are cracking down on it as best they can. But we are at least making headway by legalizing brothels, and regulating them. FYI- no alcohol is to be served, and no one under the age of 18 is allowed to enter or work in one, (even though the age of consent is 16). Brothels need to get a permit from their local council and a licence, and escort agencies just need a licence to operate. Neither are allowed to advertise.

I used to work next door to a brothel, I never saw anyone coming or going, no pun intended!
