While I agree that both pictures are not appropriate for a HS yearbook, it's the girl that's going to get the last laugh when she's picked up and signed to a modeling contract and earn mega bucks....

... Or ends up being exploited by some dirty old man who knows she's desperate for a modelling career due to her story being splashed all over the media. It happens. Some victims end up just cleaned out of money; others end up being abused.

One thing she's safe from tho is being offered work as a glamour model; unless that is, she gets implants. XD

Don't forget, some aspiring models end up dead, too.

I have modelling positions open. Just come back to my room and show me why you should get one of them...

Seriously, there's a whole series you can find on many porn sites...not that'd I'd know.

Oh god yes. I've read in the papers countless stories of aspiring models ending up being murdered. Most of them genuinely believed their killer wanted to give them modelling jobs.

I just have to wonder at the mentallity of this girl's mother. The girl can be excused somewhat cuz she's still young, but why does her mother think that letting half naked photos of her daughter be published is a good idea? As for saying it's art; give me a break. A dead sheep can be labeled art these days; doesn't mean that it is.

There was an episode of Rush (Aussie police drama which RAWKS! ) which dealt with that: two girls faked a ransom attempt only to end up almost becoming victims of sex trafficking.

The pictures themselves tend to have fairly rigid restrictions, but the paid 'adds' in the back are where the students are allowed to express themselves. It's mildly similar to casual fridays at various jobs, where the rules are relaxed a bit...but it doesn't mean you can come in on monday wearing the same thing.

I believe this girls Mom is more interested in being her friend than in being her parent. If the Mom would step and jerk a knot is this girl's tail it would all be a moot point.

Geez.. I guess yearbooks have changed since my day! What happened to sitting on a chair in front of a blue screen with a dopey grin on your face?

I agree there is nothing illegal about the pic, I also agree that it is just tacky and not yearbook material.

This isn't a models portfolio, it's a yearbook. Why do all these kids have to grow up so quickly?

Oh and one other thing. What's with that damn article? Half the print was unreadable with the dark letters over the photo, I had to highlight everything just so I could read it! So annoying!!

It still happens over my way!

Although in the case of my alma mater, they did something VERY awesome for their photos. They did the student ID photos early in the year so that new ID cards could be issued, which required you to have a more generic expression anyway due to the photos being head and shoulders only since they were for concession purposes. Those were done behind a white/blue screen.

The ACTUAL school photos (and the ones that were used for the yearbook) were awesome. Bear in mind that pretty much most (if not all) schools in Australia have uniforms. My high school individual shots were done in a nice section of the courtyard where I was required to lean on a chair or a wooden railing provided by the photographers. Looked MUCH more natural and the shots came out great. The class photos were done in the drama theatre and then photoshopped onto a nice looking background (and yes it was obvious, they'd photoshop everything else but you could still see the grey floor). My Year 12 one ROCKED-because we were a small class on the day, half the class sat on drama blocks up the back while the rest perched around them and on the floor instead of on the benches. ALL the classes used a variation of those drama blocks.

(For the record, a drama block is a foam/plastic type block covered in carpeting. That is also how I broke my arm. >.>)
