  • Anti SOPA/censorship pic

I brought this here since it ruffled a couple of feathers over at CS and that wasn't my intention.

I'm sure a lot of you have seen the pictures of people with the "bar of SOPA" in their mouths, I'm planning on doing a similar picture only 1 step further. I'm going to be naked with censor bars over me in the appropriate places (that way nobody sees anything) and one over my eyes as well, with the words "don't censor me" in white on the black bars. I'm also going to have the "bar of SOPA" in my mouth, please tell me what you think.

Sounds OK. I don't really think it would be *effective,* but there's nothing really wrong with the idea.

The latest minecraft patch (mostly added language support) added new phrases to the splash screen one read
      SOPA means LOOSER in Sweedish
if that's true thats a good tag line to start adding.

That site disagrees. Not got enough evidence to confirm or deny.

It's not that it ruffled a few feathers, but it's a largely political matter which means by default it should go to fratching.

And funny enough, you're not the only one to have the idea.

Does it add something to the argument? If you think that it does, then do it. If it doesn't actually add something of value to the argument against SOPA, then don't.

I don't see how it would be effective, but if you really want, it can't hurt.

And it's sad that it had to be sent here. It doesn't take rocket science to figure out that SOPA is dangerous.

Exactly! No "feathers were ruffled". It wasn't a CS topic. Period.

Not sure what that's supposed to mean.

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

If you don't like the way CS is run, you can always start a thread on here about how it should be done. It costs me to run both sites, and I allow some stuff on one place and not on another. I think that reasonably fair.

CS is aimed at community and mutual assistance. Contentious stuff would ruin it. There are cliques to a certain extent, but it's generally pretty muted.

This place is for contentious stuff where we don't really care about hurting someone's feelings, as long as we can back our shit up.

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Wow. I didn't mean for this to turn into an argument over what should go where or anything like that, I just wanted peoples opinion on whether or not the picture was a good idea.

On the subject of the photo itself, it would gain a quick surge of interest, but nudity's getting pretty commonplace these days.

I'd not object to a copy of the photo before the bars are added, of course. Inbox only.

I think we all realize that.

Perhaps you should have just posted your story and left out the part about the "ruffled feathers" requiring removal from CS to fratching?

Anyway, enough dickering over where it's been posted, the topic is SOPA and your protest against it.

I have a certain reputation to maintain.

I still think that the whole situation is going to be one of many. I'd say go for it if you want to, but given the way nudity is being used so often then I wouldn't expect it to set the world on fire.

True. Nudity has become pretty commonplace anymore. In many cases, it's not even considered worth censoring, depending on the context of it.
(If it's a breast feeding mom don't even think about it on Facebook. )

Your idea does make a statement, though.

I say, if you feel strongly and, as others have said, you think it's adding a valid comment to the censorship issue, go for it.
