Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't your potential SOPA liability be limited, seeing as how the owner (and maybe the servers) are based in the UK?

      Maybe. Maybe not.

Even if he's not liable, he could have his sites blacklisted in the US, which is a major and legitimate concern. SOPA has mostly killed the provision for that (mostly), but I believe PIPA still has it intact.

As a form of protest, a number of major sites are going "dark" on Wednesday. Including Reddit, Cheezburger Network, and Wikipedia.

On the subject, I'm not sure how effective it would be. Consider PeTA and all there "Fur? I'd rather be naked" ads where they get (arguably) attractive celebrities stripped naked. They didn't even have that level of shock that PeTA was going for when they started. Now? The only reason that people don't tear them down in disgust over the organization's activities is either they are protected from vandalism or people mistake them for a young adult clothing store.

You can take the picture, and it may get you, personally, some attention, but it's not going to do anything to raise awareness of SOPA. The internet already knows about it and the general public doesn't know who you are.

After telling Bill what I planned to do we got into an argument about the picture, he doesn't want anyone looking at a naked picture of his girlfriend even if they won't see certain stuff. I'm sorry but there won't be any picture after all.

Do you ever wear a bikini? Because the vast majority of censor bars cover at least as much, although in a slightly different configuration.

I know, but if I go ahead and do it now he'll be really pissed. I'll think of a different picture.

Yeah. I wasn't suggesting you go around him, just musing about how silly the argument really was.

That site disagrees. Not got enough evidence to confirm or deny.

It's correct. "Sopa" = "sweep", but "sopor" is "garbage/trash" in plural, and while not entirely grammatically correct, "sopa" can mean garbage, trash (colloquially), and also "loser".

I've found an idea that's close to my original picture without upsetting Bill, I tried to see if they had censor bars for my Gaia avatar and they did. So what I'm going to do instead is I'm going to use that picture, that way I'll still have a censored picture without having to get naked.

Well, SOPA and PIPA are all but dead now, so it's a bit late. But perhaps you will find another cause for your idea.

The bills are not dead, unfortunately, and just because they've lost a lot of favor doesn't mean that they or their successors won't continue to be a threat to free speech and due process.

Sadly, a group of artists' unions (SAG, AFTRA, IATSE, DGA, etc.) have come out in support of SOPA/PIPA. Film studios, who represent a not-insignificant amount of funding for Democratic candidates, are threatening action against Obama and anyone else who drops support.

Aw fuck those people. Fuck them hard, and fuck anyone else who thinks this is a good idea. They need to see this video to understand that SOPA is not good for anyone. Unless I'm misunderstanding the severity of the bill, the issue isn't even worth debating. Just like how anyone with a brain denounces Westboro Baptist, anyone with a brain should realize that SOPA is evil, totalitarian bullshit!
