The burglar in this story has five prior convictions. He committed the offence while on licence (effectively parole) from his prior offence. In addition to this he defecated on the walls of the house and wiped himself with a tea towel.
While his stupidity is not in doubt here (his leaving his DNA at the scene) what appalls me is the sentence which is so low - 3 1/2 years. Every prisoner in the UK is automatically released on licence (i.e. given parole) halfway through their sentence.
Basically this guy has been given a 1 3/4 prison sentence for crapping in someones house while burgling it.
We wonder why things are in such a bad order when we hand out such pathetic prison terms and it really gets me wound up.
