If you do what corporate says your risking your job as much as if you don't do what they say.
If your store becomes known as reseller friendly you will get more of that type of customer and less real customers.
The resellers will only buy things they can sell at a profit your store will lose business and you will be out on your ass.
If you defy corporate the real customers will be happy and you can make your case to corporate when they come to find out why you didn't do what they said if the reseller complains to them anyway.
Here is what Corporate hears in this situation, "Hey can I stop people from buying our product"
What you need to make them hear is "Hey can I stop people from stealing our business?"
Resellers are forcing you to be an unwilling wholesaler and then marketing to the customers that were shopping in your store.
Isn't this essentially what the business itself does anyway? They resell? "Target" goes to some big warehouse company and buys their stuff cheap. Then they resell it on the shelves. Then another business owner comes in and he buys it cheap and resells it.
Resellers buy from distributors, who make money from being a supply chain and not having the overhead of a reseller. A reseller needs to attract end users to make enough profit to support their overhead, and they use sales and specials to attract end users, who will often buy product that they didn't plan to buy while in the stores. When resellers buy from other resellers, they typically do not buy any non-target items, so it results in an overall loss for the resellers they purchase from.
Not only that, but it also adversely affects end users in that it depletes the special items, and then results in those items only being available at shops they wouldn't otherwise patronize and prices being higher overall to cover an additional, redundant link in the supply chain from manufacturer to end user.
