  • “These assholes always get away,” he says to the operator. Zimmerman is then heard giving directions to the dispatcher. “Shit, he’s running,” Zimmerman says.

“Are you following him?” the dispatchers asked.

    “Yes,” Zimmerman responds.

“We don’t need you to do that,” the dispatcher says.
So the kid was running from Zimmerman, the confrontation ends with the kid being shot and killed, and yet Zimmerman is still not arrested at the scene?

I cannot begin to comprehend the thought processes of the cops here.

    • I can't seem to get the sound byte to play, but based on what I've read...O.M.G.

And yet the police are still standing by how they've handled everything and saying the attorneys are deciding whether to prosecute. What?!?

I gotta think that maybe, just maybe, the police realized they made a mistake early on by not arresting Zimmerman and so they refused to admit they made an error in order to cover their asses. In for a penny, in for a pound, so to speak. At some point however, you need to just give in and admit you fucked up.

      That poor family and kid.

Honestly it sounds more like they went "Yeah, whatever, another dead black kid. Open shut case." and now they can't understand why anyone else cares.

        • If Zimmerman gets away with this, then he might think he can get away with it again.

          That terrifies me.

What do you think he should be specifically tried for? What evidence are you going to use to convict him with? You cannot arrest someone without charges and you cannot hold them if you have no proof. The problem with this case is there really isn't a ton of evidence to convict him of a lot of things.

Manslaughter. The kid was begging for his life and was murdered in cold blood according to the tapes. Why do you want him to go free?

              • He held someone down and shot them in the chest while he screamed for help. I think that would count for at least manslaughter. Once you have the person down, the threat is neutralized. His self defense claim is BS.

                  What tapes?

Why do you want him to go free? Go give him a Casey Anthony-like trial which you seem to want so badly.

The 911 tapes were released yesterday. I'd post a link but I'm on my cell atm. They're disturbing to say the least.

Greenday, the boy did not approach Zimmerman at the car.
He got out of the car and started following the kid, against the advice of the 911 operator.
That is very obvious from the 911 call.

Zimmerman was concerned that the kid was "going to get away".
So, using your argument, what was Martin going to be considered guilty of doing?
Zimmerman hadn't even seen him doing anything other than walking down the street in the rain, and he considered that suspicious behaviour.

It was Zimmerman's own bias that came into play.
He saw a black kid in a hoodie in a "white" neighbourhood, walking down the street, his hand in his waistband, looking around at houses, and assumed he was up to no good.

                      Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

                      • Isn't obvious what horrible crime he was committing? He was "walking while black". It's a gateway crime you know. It leads to "driving while black".

                        • Right? But, it's hilarious to think this is a racial issue.
Do not lead, for I may not follow. Do not follow, for I may not lead. Just go over there somewhere.

                          • It's disturbing that the dispatcher actually asks if the spotted 'perp' is black or hispanic as a first query.

Well, I doubt this is the case, but there might have been an earlier report of a black or hispanic in the area causing problems.

                              Lets see.

Before I heard the tapes a manslaughter conviction would have been fairly certain.
Now they might even be able to add hate crime to the list.

and while I am no expert in law, in some jurisdictions, assault with a weapon (which he had) is a felony, a death involved in the act of said felony can be tried as a 1st degree murder, or a as a second degree depending on all circumstances.

If he had the kid on the ground and then shot him, then would be first degree.

Manslaughter would be easy as hell to prove.

                              • I don't think people get what it's like down here. I live near Sanford. I'm there a lot because that's where the"good" Walmart is. I've seen how the police are when I can do 10 over the speed limit right past a cop and nothing. My buddy goes 3 miles over and gets busted every time. The difference between me and him? I'm white and he's Cuban. So don't tell me it's not about race.
