I feel like there are two types of people who label themselves hardcore gamers - those that play a lot of Halo/CoD multiplayer online, and those who play a lot of retro games, still have their NES hooked up, etc. I fall into the latter category, and simply by virtue of that label being around and applied to this group longer, I'd say the latter category is also the more "correct" definition, if such things can be objectively correct.

"Harcore" is such a useless term in the gaming community. About half of the definitions include me, nearly as many exclude me, and I only actually agree with a very few.

I was mad enough when my ex gave away some magazines I had, so I imagine I would have completely flipped my shit in this case.

The audience applauded, but had the genders been reversed, with the boyfriend selling the lady's bloated purse or shoe collection for pennies on the dollar, that same audience would have been calling for his crucifixion.
          They were cheering the bitch?!

You're right, if the genders were reversed, the mood would be completely different. She'd probably end up on Oprah with the sob music playing.

But when it's a female doing it to her boyfriend, it's seen as some kind of empowerment. After all, he probably deserved it for not giving her the time of day.

That kind of shit shouldn't be tolerated from either gender.

I think that it's tolerated with women, because we're expected to be Wendy figures, making our Peter Pan boyfriends grow up by making them give up "childish" things like paintball, lightsabers, video games, or baseball cards.

I hate this. I don't want to be Mother Hen to a manchild who needs to be forcibly made to grow up. If the guy is spending so much time on his hobbies that he neglects his SO, family, or responsibilities, then that needs to be addressed. But if that's not the case, then leave it the hell alone.

No one sells my NES, SNES, or N64 without me going insane and filing theft charges. Even though I don't think the NES still works [it hasn't been taken out of it's hiding spot since after I moved], the other two systems works fine and dandy.

A former friend once was a bit bothered by the fact her boyfriend had a video game console in his room.

I pointed out that a video game console can be a 'boyfriend babysitter', from a certain point of view. They seemed less bothered by the video game console after that.

Yep, double standards are a bitch.

Some of you know that I have sizable model car collection. Nearly everything is long-out-of-production, or limited-edition items that I've picked up over the past 20 or so years. Most of the unbuilt 'stash' is currently housed in a wall cabinet downstairs. Several shelves, packed with kits, from floor to ceiling. All of the built cars, live in a large (4x8 foot) display case in the basement. That same room houses my model train layout, and my workbench. Nothing too big--the layout runs along two walls, and the workbench is an old computer desk. Usually, unless I'm working on multiple projects...the basement is pretty clean.

I do know, that if my girlfriend/significant other/wife/etc made that stuff "disappear," there would be hell to pay. Hell to pay, because she'd have to get all that shit back. She'd then have to find somewhere else to live...since I'd throw her ass to the curb, along with her shit...provided that I hadn't decided to take it outside, and light it up!

                        I don't know how I'd react.

i haven't really collected anything in such a way, but I do have particular pieces of personal significance, the incorrect handling of which would be automatic ending of the relationship - given that there is a relationship based on respect and understanding (and, of course, those personal possessions are an important part of being ME - it would be obvious the significance they have in my life),.

Thus, yes, I'd yell extremely loudly, the relationship would be over (not that there really was on, cos obviously, she had no real respect for me and what values I have in my life), and she'd be finding a new place to live. Obviously, she's getting all of my stuff back.

She's also going have to deal with the law...
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

I would seriously be beyond wicked fuckin' pissed if that was me. NOBODY touches my shit and if they do anything to my shit, believe me there will be HELL TO PAY! I'd make the bitch get all my stuff back, even if she has to buy it out of her own money or go though hell and high water to get it back and dump that bitch's ass like yesterday's garbage. Who the fuck did she think she was to take it upon herself to sell somebody else's stuff without permission?!!! It's a major pet peeve of mine when people think they're entitled to encroach up and do what they want with somebody else's stuff (especially more so with mine).

All my collections is mostly band shirts. My gf at the time kept trying to get me to give them away. Umm no. Not gonna happen. She knew if she ever touched a damn thing of mine, shes gone. My stuff in my personal space, leave it alone.

What got to me about the story I posted was that this so-called girlfriend didn't even try to talk to her boyfriend- she just took matters into her own hands. If she had talked to the BF, they might have worked something out. BF might have found safe off-site storage for his collection, or been willing to sell off some of the collection and use the money for something they both would enjoy. But no! It's so much easier to just take matters into her own hands.

I always make a point of inviting my wife and my kids when I'm going to participate in my various hobbies. The kids will sometimes participate especially if they think we're gonna go out to eat afterwords, the wife rarely participates unless it's something special. When she invites me to participate with her I more often than not do (I'm not into big crowds so I usually don't go to the social events.)
That being said I asked my wife what she thought I would do if she sold all my guns or my antique cars/trucks without my previous permission. She said "I wouldn't stick around to find out." I'm a big believer in the Golden Rule and she and my kids know this so I don't have anything to worry about.
