I have someone I refer to as "Crazy Neighbor W". He has some sort of mental/emotional issues, which are aggravated by drinking. He's been known to yell and howl in his apartment, usually late at night, and then the cops are called to come and perform a "health check".

I know of only one time that W refused to open the door. Based on the conversation I heard in the hallway, the police clearly had a history with W, yet they remained calm while they pleaded, compromised and tried to convince W to open the door. They even got another neighbor and a family member to talk to him. They explained that they were required to perform a health check to make sure he was okay and they'd need to call the fire department to break down his door. And yes, they did eventually break it down, but you could tell it was as a last resort and it was to ensure W's safety and state of mind.

This whole thing is tragic and if the video & phone evidence is as damning as the article suggests, then I wish the family all the best in suing the ass off the city and getting their officers proper training.

At any rate: Considering this incident happened on November, and we're just now hearing about it in March, how is this: "And not nearly as often as the media would love us to believe" applicable? The media wants us to believe things like this are isolated incidents. Looks like it's working on you.

If you really want to get your blood boiling, read some of those reports and lawsuits they have listed. One that caught my eye was the one alleging that an officer leg-swept an 11-year-old special needs kid and then charged the child with assault on an officer.

Quite interesting that one of the very few "red zones" in their misconduct map is Maricopa County, AZ where "Sherrif Joe" reigns supreme.
