I stated my opinion and bashed no one else's. I wasn't posting to have others turn to my side or way of thought, just stating my view. Personally getting bashed for my view just makes me believe it more. Now if someone asked why I thought the way I do on the subject that would be different.

Nobody bashed you--they voiced dissenting opinions, and pointed out how your opinion was most likely incorrect.

However, I would like to know: Why do you think the term "homophone" is sexual?

pointing out how my opinion is inncorrect IS bashing my opinion. Now if I had been asked before and someone said, "interesting thought this is why I feel the way I do...ect ect." then it's not bashing.

I also think you meant something other then homophone? But for my opinion on the shirt it brings up a religious view as well as a view on sexuality. In the schools I went to openly stating such a fact was not allowed. This has stuck with me to a point. If the kid was on the street and wearing the shirt I would have no problem with it. Might even tell him it's a good shirt, depends on if he looked approachable or not.

Case in point, in my middle school we had someone who came from Detroit. Living out here with, what rumor said, was the last of the family that would take them. This brought in a culture most of us had never seen before. The clothing came with a style that brought in parental concern. With the PTA pushing hard the school cracked down on anything printed on shirts that depicted vulgarity or sexuality in any way. It then was pushed to include religious tones which was just added as an after thought.

The students graduating in 2005 got the ruling specified to not allowing only certain clothing and I believe it was class of 2008 or 2009 who got the rule shifted again.

When I was in high school (1988-92) some students wore stuff like this all the time and nobody said a word about it. Certainly, at least, when compared to that a "Jesus is no homophobe" shirt isn't sexual.

No. Bashing would have been, "Your opinion is stupid and only an idiot would think like that." This is a debate forum, and what you were treated to was dissent.

                Dissenting is not bashing.

It's called a typo. I'm sure you've experienced them before. Why anyone would not twig to the typing of "homophone" being a typo for "homophobe" in a thread about a shirt with the word "homophobe" as part of the basic discussion, I cannot figure.

It seems all of this stems from last year, when the school refused to alloy him to wear the shirt. Because the lawsuit and media attention is making this into a BIG DEAL, the student will be allowed to wear the shirt on a single day, but that's it.

Student is proceeding with the lawsuit anyway, and I say good for him.

I could see them taking particular avenues to ban the shirt, but it won't hold water because they'll pick n choose and only apply it to that.

If you meant "homosexual", then my next question would be, "How is that NOT sexual?"

It's not sexual because it's the clinical term for a certain sexual orientation, plus, there was no mention of homosexual, there was mention of homophobe, which has no sexual connotation what so ever.

No. I meant homophobe, which is a type of bigot. There is nothing sexual about bigots and bigotry (except in niche areas, and if you include that, then everything is sexual... yes, even that >_> ).

Did anyone honestly not know what was meant when the word "homophone" was typed?

Something seems fishy to me...like "Hey, this person made a typo, let's NEVER LET IT GO and keep harping on it like we had no idea so we can win the big internetz argumentz!"
