Students Sues School Over Gay T-Shirt

It IS possible for people to say one thing and do another....it's a really easy, cheap way to derail someone's argument - feign ignorance and pretend to have no idea!

I think I'm going to start doing that. People do it to me enough.

Even if the shirt specifically stated homosexual, I believe that to be a correct term for describing some one who is in fact a homosexual.

If the shirt was some how alluding to the acts of sex then sure.. I could see that.

However I must wonder, if the shirt was advocating abstinence based on religious reasons would the school ban that?

I meant "Homophobe" as that is what the shirt is alleged to have said "Jesus is not a homophobe". Sadly, the N and B keys are right next to one another.

I know what the shirt means. I would agree with the shirt on the street. I do believe I said that before. But in my school when I was going, the shirt would not have been allowed. That is what I base my thoughts on.

Under the rules I had in school it would have been labeled under sexual/indecent/religious. Sexual because it's talking about a sexual identity. Religious because it mentions Jesus. I don't think it would fall under the third unless it was too short and showing the stomach area.

That's it. There is nothing more. Our school got these rules because parents pushed for them. I have a feeling his school got those rules or ideals the same way.

It's called a typo. I'm sure you've experienced them before. Why anyone would not twig to the typing of "homophone" being a typo for "homophobe" in a thread about a shirt with the word "homophobe" as part of the basic discussion, I cannot figure.

The lawsuit has ended and the boy won. He is able to wear the shirt to school whenever he pleases, and the school board has to pay him $20,000 in damages.

Score one for the First Amendment.

I like how there's a comment about how the school was questioning the action because they were never told they were going to be sued until the case was filed and that they never wanted to go to court over it. But, once the case was filed, they went and fought it rather than dropping their side, which is all the kid wanted to begin with.
