One thing to point out, which may or may not have been lost in this debate, is that the sexual offenders registry list is only for 7 years. It's not a lifetime deal.

http://www.criminaljustice.ny.gov/nsor/faq.htm - In New York, low risk must register for at least 20 years. Life time for everyone else.

      http://www.dpscs.state.md.us/onlines...#_Q4._How_Long - Maryland, 15 years to life.

      http://www.klaaskids.org/st-nodak.htm - North Dakota, 15 to life.

http://www.nj.gov/njsp/spoff/faq.html - New Jersey, at least 15 years.

Not sure where you are getting your facts.

Edit: http://www.wsipp.wa.gov/rptfiles/regsrtn.pdf From 1996, but unless a lot has change that I don't know about, it'd seem this 7 years thing is pretty untrue.

I stand corrected. It appears that a majority of states started changing since the passing of Megan's Law and SORNA in 2006. Some were strict before hand, but I can remember seeing signs and ads warning you about the next 7 years of your life.

A guy at work had this hanging over him. I dont know the specifics, but essentially he had sex with a younger girl and when it came out almost everyone hated him.

Regardless that it only happened once, regardless that he had served his time in prison, regardless that it would never happen again.

He did know the girl was under age at the time, so I agree with the prison sentence. I do know alcohol and some other drugs were involved on his end. He was drunk and on drugs, she wasn't. It was statutory rape not forcible and she said as much at trial and in fact, had to get a restraining order against after he got out because she wouldn't leave him alone. He almost got back into trouble because of her and he had a devil of a time proving she was stalking him.

Ok..that's just stupid..if he was intoxicated and she wasn't, wouldn't he be the one unable to consent?

IMO I wouldn't hate him...I'd hate the douches who were doing all the hating JMO.
