  • Lose weight on the feeding tube diet!!!!

    Link

Not even sure why I would put it up for "debate," since I seriously doubt anyone here would actually SUPPORT anything like this. The doctor that administers that "program" should have his license revoked.

All that to fit in a dress you are only wearing once, or any reason for that matter. I may be lazy at times, but if I don't go to the gym or eat right, oh well. I want to lose weight. But in a natural way. Not starve my body of essential nutrients that you can't always get in a tube.

To me, it makes more sense to buy a dress that fits in the first place. But brides-to-be are not known for remaining entirely sane...

As for the "diet" itself... the only real difference between this and other crash diets is that this one is, in a sense, automatic. You don't eat *anything,* so you don't have to continually make choices consistent with your diet plan. That much seems like a good idea. Alter the contents to a better balance and a safer rate of loss and this might be useful for people who really *need* to lose weight but don't have the willpower. Especially if it could somehow be made less obvious.

My grandfather had a similar, though less medical, approach: when he wanted to lose weight, he'd eat normally... every other day, not eating on the alternate days at all.

And the worst part... someone still marries them!

I do like being single.. otherwise I wouldn't be able to say that.

There's also an insane amount of pressure on brides to look "perfect" on their wedding day. It took a couple of arguments for my mother to get the hint that I wasn't crash dieting or tanning for my wedding...and I'm still nervous about her being in the room when I get my hair done.

I did diet when I was engaged, but I was engaged for a whole year so I had plenty of time. And I kept the weight off until I got pregnant, it wasn't just to look good for one day but to start off my married life as healthy as possible.

I guess it's true that it's not muh different than any crash diet, but they're all dangerous; my mom has had thyroid problems since she was a teenager and tried crash dieting on and off, and she's 60 now. And expensive! Just clear the snacks out of your house if you have no willpower. You can't eat it if it isn't there!

I'm sorry, but this completely and utterly pisses me off. It's insulting. My mother had to be on a feeding tube for a while back in 2004 after cancer surgery. Had to. It was medically necessary, you know, to KEEP HER ALIVE. It is NOT a pretty thing, and NOT something meant for bullshit like this! Whatever "doctor" thought this was a good idea should lose his/her license immediately! Also, the women who think this is a good "diet" need their heads examined, or need to spend some time in a hospital ward where people are sick enough to actually need the feeding tubes, just to wake their self-centered asses up!

Well, of course. They agreed to marry before the wedding-planning-induced temporary insanity set in, and it dissipates once The Big Day is over.

                Of course.

Anyway, it's the crash dieting itself, not particularly the specific method used, that's the problem.

I know I'm overweight and I want to look good on my wedding but I also want to maintain the weight that I lose after the wedding too. Especially since I want to be healthy in general and also for when I have a baby. The tube feeding diet...fuck that. The word diet is a four letter word to me. I refuse to do crash diets just to lose weight. Not only because crash diets crash and burn after you stop but half the time they lack other essential nutrients.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people...

You could always do like my friend did. Because she didn't want to have to have her dress special ordered (they only had this dress in so many sizes left, NOT that she was too large or anything, they just didn't have anymore of that size) or alterations, she crash dieted, lost 10-15 lbs to squeeze into it.

I couldn't afford alterations so I bought a dress that didn't fit me well, but it wasn't ungodly uncomfortable, it was just that the chest was too large, but the rest of the dress was fine, if just a little loose. I have that problem where I'm decently skinny in the middle but my boobs are so huge, so I had to go up in size to accomodate for my chest, but it was still a bit big, but the next size down was too tight in the chest. I wouldn't have bought a dress two or three sizes too small just to fit in it, though.

One thing I don't understand...unless you're 5'10" or more, you're going to have to get the dress altered. I had to get 7 inches taken off the bottom of mine. (I went with a corset back, so it didn't need any other alterations, other than adding straps and fixing the bustle.) If you go to an independent seamstress, alterations are actually quite affordable...certainly costs less than having a feeding tube inserted.

Last time I wore a dress (shocker, I know..), I had to get it altered. On my dime. So I found a nice cheap place. And she did a fantastic job.

If I ever get married, it better be to someone who has a lot more sense than that. Plan a marriage and if they want a dress, buy it closer to the time of the wedding, and if it needs alterations, I know 2 people who will do it for cheap or free. And, I rather not spend 1000 bucks just on a dress. I know its "their big day" but geez, gotta leave room for their soon to be spouse, too.

I went formal gown shopping with the same attitude. I mainly wanted something I could wear again in the future.

I wound up with a nice halter-neck dress that suits me nicely. And it only cost me $20!

My sister went with the same attitude. She now has a nice dress to wear to weddings and similar.

I heard about this diet plan yesterday on the radio. It's essentially an absurd-extreme form of the Atkins diet, with an added twist of weirdness (the feeding tube) thrown in for no reason I can see beyond sheer sadism. Oh, yeah, and it's absurdly expensive for what it does.

IMO, you should never, ever go on any diet unless you fully understand what it does, why it does it, and any negatives or downsides that could occur. Doing a diet just because a talking-head on the boob tube recommends it is the WORST possible reason.

My recommended diet? Cut 20% of your caloric intake, preferably in starchy carbs (like french fries), and pick up a reasonable exercise regimen. Not that I'm any sort of expert.

On weight loss, most people know what they need to do to lose the excess. They just don't do it. That was my life. Currently I'm doing it and losing weight.
