I think this may be yet another law that has religious undertones. According to a Christian list of 10 levels of intimacy, holding hands is pretty high up on the list (I think it's number 6 or 7, if you can believe it). I haven't heard the list since middle school, though, so I can't remember all of the "intimacy" levels.

Huh? I've never heard of this before, and I've grown up in an entirely Christian environment. A quick google search didn't turn up anything either, though it did turn up a hilariously neurotic conversation on a Christian forum about appropriate levels of intimacy before marriage
One of my cousins moved to Tennessee nearly 20 years ago because he's a professional-level musician, and when he lived here in SoCal, he was put under significant peer pressure to "experiment" with various recreational drugs to "fit in" with the SoCal/Hollywood music scene, and the Nashville music scene doesn't do that. Reading about some of the stuff that Tennessee lawmakers try to get away with, I have to wonder how often he longs to come back to SoCal!

We learned about it in an FCA meeting back when I was in middle school. Like I said, I can't remember the entire list, but it was relatively long. I do remember that it contained things like hand holding, touching hair, talking, etc. Kissing and sex were, of course, at the very top of the list as the most intimate things you could do as a couple.
Eeeeewww, sometimes when I went to church during the closing prayer and/or song, they would tell you to hold hands with the person on either side of you. Eeeeewww!
I held hands with a friend/coworker like two years ago when we first met, as a joke. We're still just friends, this must be the longest foreplay ever!

A church-sanctified and sponsored orgy, or at least the lead up to one. I think the churches of Tennessee would flip their shit if they realized the full implications of this bill.

Sounds like if you asked "What the hell were they smoking?" about both groups (SoCal music scene and Tennessee lawmakers), you could be pretty sure about the musicians (probably pot), but not even crack would explain the lawmakers.
