I played with LEGOs a lot as a kid. Damn it hurts to step on them.

But I also had a Barbie mansion with everything you can imagine to go with it.

Quote: "They have little breasts and they have fancy hair ... it just disturbs us that this is the image that they want girls to see."

As opposed to what? Hasn't bathed or brushed her hair in a week Lego-girl?

Would they be okay if the Legos resembled a mix of real teenagers/young adults? For example:

      -Plus size Lego-girl
      -Poverty Lego-girl
      -Super-materialistic Lego-girl
      -Trampy Lego-girl
      -Welfare mom Lego-girl
      -etc etc etc

Truthfully, the only problem I have is that they don't resemble Legos. Where's the fun if they aren't square, box-like people?

Yes, but despite the fact that Legos were essentially gender neutral, they were marketed generally towards boys. One article quoted a retailer talking about marketing the new set on an end cap at first, and then moving it to the 'girls toys' section, completely segregated from all other Lego sets, which are all in the 'boy toys' section. >_<

Lego's finally branching out and stretching itself conceptually? Good.

Building Legos is generally boys thing. The sets were geared towards trucks and what not. I loved building them with my brother. Or helping hime with building a k-nex roller coaster. These girl sets look like they have less building to them. Thats not fun.

I know the saying is over done, but.... I hope they step on Legos for the rest of their lives for being idiots.

And that's an excellent display of the subtle sexual bias that pervades practically everything.

Lego is not a boys' thing, in general or otherwise, but so many ad agencies, stores, teachers, parents, and other kids have it in the backs of their minds that everybody just sort of believes it without thinking about it.

                My Year 1 teacher didn't.

She bought about 4-5 HUGE boxes of Lego into the classroom and let us go nuts.

She also brought them along to the Gifted and talented Association Meetings where kids had activities for an hour or so. She ran a session and let us go nuts with the lego. I made a helicopter/car.

<assuming this is in the US>

Meanwhile, they have a political faction that's trying to remove their legal rights and status as citizens piece by piece but THIS is what they go after.

...and Americans wonder why the rest of the world think they're batshit insane.

Marketing wise, they hardly had anything in the sets that a lot of girls I knew would enjoy. I prefer builing a submarine out of Legos than play with Barbies any day. People thought I was weird.

Some of my fave toys as a kid were my medieval-themed legos. And then I got some pirate stuff to go with them, good times!

ok my only real question is....how the fuck does lego hypersexualize anything? its fucking lego! Theres nothing sexual about lego unless you make a giant penis out of lego's! And even thats more a feat of structural engineering and standard tween/teen idiocy rather than a sexual act. -_-

Umm... I've seen hypersexual. I LIKE hypersexual. Sex is fun. This isn't sexual at all.

Girls of about 12-13 portrayed as having small breasts? And hair that they pay even a basic amount of attention to? The horror. So sexual.

There's a set for scientists AND a set for salons? GAH! CLEARLY SEXIST! WOMEN CAN'T HAVE SALONS.

This image I got off a website that I frequently dislike for her anti-intellectualism. Nevertheless, it works.

http://www.feminisnt.com is the link, and she goes by the name Furry Girl.

Getting their panties all in a twist cause of a stupid toy?? Are u fucking kidding me??
When they start focusing on real issues that matter to most women then I'll take them seriously. Till then, they need to get a fucking grip on reality.
