Well, I did finally pick one up and watch it.

But, this would be why I guess I put it off so long and why I wasn't really that excited while watching it:

So, you have tons of gorgeous women with perfect bodies in the porn, especially Jenna. Ok, that's fine, I have no problem with that. But every guy in the movie is fucking UGLY or way older than the girls, and their bodies are nowhere near in as great of shape as the girls.

I fast forwarded through all but one male/female scene, because the only halfway decent looking guy in the movie was Jenna's ex husband. I don't want to see an out of shape 45 year old guy fucking a 22 year old. Sorry. I just don't.

I could actually only watch the female/female scenes without getting icked and forwarding chapters, and I did get a little icked when they brought in the dildos. Everything else was fine about that. At least they were nice to look at.

Porn by guys is usually for guys, with the main dude being fugly so that the guy watching can think "I'm better looking than that dude, so that could happen to me, too."

The boyfriend hates typical porn 'cause one of the sexier things to be done (most foreplay, and the 'unwrapping' as it were) is usually just skipped right over to go from sham of a plot straight to fucking.

There is porn out there made by women, though I don't really know anything about it.

I'm bored by the vast majority of hetero porn....there is nothing in the world more boring than watching a blow job (or more frequently, watching someone get face-fucked). I recently discovered a sub-reddit called 'gonewildstories'. It's literary porn, but it's a lot more interesting (and hotter) to read that than to watch most porn that's out there.

Most of the guys working in porn are financial stakeholders. Ron Jeremy became a nearly-household name because he was able to pay for making the porn movies that he stars in. In comparison, most of the women are paid peanuts - a few hundred dollars for a few hours' work is great when you view it as dollars-per-hour, but compared to how much the movies bring in, it's peanuts, and it's not as though they have a shoot every week.

I personally like to read rather than watch; a well written sex scene to me is far better than watching porn.

Note: a lot of slashfic is written by women, and a lot of women like to read it. I don't mind reading slash if it's well written, and isn't comically unrealistic or so badly written it's painful. Whereas a lot of hetero men would rather poke their own eyes out rather than watch or read slash.

Going for writing is good. Even better is interactive roleplay where you cowrite a scene with another person.

I like to read porn as well.

Like most people, it also depends on the type of porno as well. I don't like BDSM, but I bet other people would.

Like others have said, I have no problem with porn, hell I even enjoy it on occasion, but like anything it's done in moderation.

You may have wasted a lot of time watching porn, but it could have just as easily been something else: gaming, reading, knitting whatever. It wasn't necessarily porns fault that you watched so much of it, that was just what you were into at the time. When you realised you were spending too much time watching it, you made changes and cut it out. Personally I don't think you needed to cut it out completely if it's an activity you enjoy, but it's your life, your choice.

I myself know I spend too much time on the couch watching tv, and I plan to make changes in my life to stop that. But I won't be cutting it out completely, I will just be cutting back and getting a bit more excercise, or going out to visit friends. Doing other stuff that isn't such a waste. But I will still enjoy my tv time, I would never give that up!

Oh and as for the choice of porn, I myself like the really cheesy 70's porn! They had much better storylines, and there's hardly anyone spitting on anyone's dick because they can't reach for the lube!

Has anyone ever seen interactive porn? My hubby has one dvd where it's just the girl, and the camera is the mans viewpoint. I thought it was an interesting twist, but the best part was it had a blooper reel!!!! Funniest thing I ever saw!

I prefer text. Visual depictions don't do it for me at all. Which I find kinda weird, because my primary method of memorizing things is through the visual. Moreover, I don't need everything described to me in excrucating detail - something to spark my imagination is all I require.

That said, I wouldn't want everyone in the world to be expected to like what I like. Text is not for everyone.

I'd really like to see porn put into perspective for first-time consumers. It's not necessarily a great how-to guide (though it _can_ be. Look up Anna Brownfield's work for an example). There needs to be a bit of expectation management with this, as with most things.
