OK sorry, but I think I got things off topic by mentioning Finding Nemo. I just wanted to point out how hypocritical many of those mothers are, I'm sure, by letting their kid watch a movie with Ellen in it if they hate her so much.

In other news, I've always shopped at JC Penny, and will continue to do so for the time being. I save my righteous indignation for people who deserve it, like The Walking Urinal Cake Kim Kardashian. Fuck you, Sears!

I do, but I mostly meant that Finding Nemo features Ellen as Dory. I've never met a kid that hasn't seen and loved that movie... no adults either, come to think of it.

I think it was the whole colour saturation that draws everyone in.
And when you mentioned it, I was thinking more family "values". The kids wouldn't exactly be able to draw a connection between Ellen DeGeneres and "OMG LEZBIAN FISH!"

Another Disney movie: Freaky Friday (either version). The husband/father is nowhere to be seen.

The only Disney movie that I can think of off the top of my head that has a "proper" family is Emperor's New Groove - Pacha, Chicha (his very pregnant wife - note that pregnancy is also very rare in Disney movies), Chaca, and Tipo. Of course, the Emperor's parents are nowhere to be seen, but given that he's (some sort of) an adult, that's not as much of an issue.

Technically in Freaky Friday, Anna gets a stepdad by the end of the film and some of Anna's conflict centres around her stepdad. (On a sidenote, I did not realise that Mark Harmon was in the more recent version until I watched it AGAIN!)

And yes, Emperor's NEw Groove is a good one. ALso because there's no depiction of a wedding ring, I wonder how they'd feel about "babies before marriage" type thing.

Certainly, the Duggars are considered heroes of the Quiverfull movement.

What I was referring to with the Duggars was that a "traditional" family by their standards is the cookie cutter family: mum, dad and two kids. The Duggars don't exactly fit that mold.

Not seen Nemo, but with other animated movies I probably wouldn't notice a voice actor unless using their own voice and the name being prominant, I recall watching Ellens sit com way back when, but wouldn't know her voice if she phone sexed me.

Emperors new groove, he probably became Emperor because his father died, abdication is a rare and recent thing in the Royalty game.

As for freaky Friday, if they had a father/husband, imagine the wacky hijinks that ensue when he wants to get frisky with his wife not knowing his daughter is occupying her body.

The best part is...The *same* group is already boycotting JC for choosing Ellen as one of their spokespeople...So are we supposed to doubly not shop there? The first boycott, and their boycott of Starbucks managed to get well over 10x as many people signing up in support of Starbucks (Heck, I even stopped in to get a drink, solely to show support).

JC Penny's must be cheering the news, makes me wonder if the 'moms' realize how much good they do, totally by accident

I think you're off the mark a little bit.

To these people, "traditional family" includes the following:

- Married man and woman
- Kids (number is irrelevant)
- Man is in charge of the household. PERIOD.
- Church every Sunday
- No dating until you're 18
- No sex before marriage
- No R rated movies
- Prayer every day

And so forth. You get the idea, it's less about having two kids and more about being bible thumpers.

While it is true that a loss of business could get their attention, I highly doubt this group is powerful enough to have any kind of significant impact on JC Penney's balance sheet.

even if they truly had one million moms, giving them benefit of the doubt, there is over 300 million people living in the United States alone, assume that the average family has 5 people (mom, dad, and 2.4 kids, but I'll round up for easier division), that means that there is at most 1.6% of the population who would boycott JC Penny (assuming 60,000,000 families in the country, which is probably way off, but probably not a bad rough estimate).
Fluctuations in temperature affecting how much air conditioning or heating they need probably has a bigger affect than this group would have even if they were as large as they claim.

Yes, but remember that moms, particularly stay-at-home moms, do a disproportionate amount of the shopping.

Still, these days in this country, most who care at all will be on the store's side of this. *Marriage* has around 50% support, depending on which poll you listen to; lack of outright hostility to the existence of gay people in general is far more widespread.

The Million Moms are a bunch a whack jobs. They tried pulling the same thing against Macy's when they featured a tiny groom and groom on top of a wedding cake in an ad. If you actually go to their facebook page the majority of the people on their are people who are blasting this group. Anytime they say to boycott this or that, their are maybe 10 people who respond favorably and 800 people who blast the group and say that they will shop or they will watch a show. (Modern Family is the last one I am aware of that they tried to get sponsors to pull ads, because the two year old said a curse word)

I honestly love Ellen, I think she is funny and she does good works. So what if she likes the same sex. Is it physically hurting us? No it isn't. My reasons for shopping at a store have nothing to do with who their spokes people are. It has to do with, do they have what I need at a reasonable price? If they do great! If not then I move on to the next store. Same thing goes for stores who carry clothing lines designed by people I don't care for ie: Sears. I don't like the Kardashians so guess what I just won't buy anything from their line. I won't punish the whole store for it.

I remember that Macy's ad. The cake topper wasn't exactly obvious; it was a small portion of the overall picture, and up against the dark underside of the trunk lid in a photo with lots else to look at. Almost an Easter egg, really, given how long normal people spend looking at something like that.
