Assaulting people with weapons is not the answer in this situation.
Man. You would make a good politician, extrapolating something like that.

In short: No. No they shouldn't. They should contact the school. They should address the issue with the authorities--report the fucks for assault, or some such. Threaten litigation against the school if they don't take care of the issue (Oh, wait, can't afford a lawyer, probably)

If that doesnt work? Teach the kid to throw a good punch. But hey, a good punch isn't going to help out against some bully and his five cronies. Not to mention, you're just as likely, if not more so, to get punished due to "Zero Tolerance" bs laws.

So....whats left? Get your ass kicked hard enough to actually prove assault? Possibly get killed? endure and bottle everything up until you have to lash out, against yourself, or an innocent?

If the school won't help...if the authorities can't help...what else is there to do, for someone with limited financial means?

I'd make a good politician. At least I'd try to get stuff done. Too moderate to get supported by either party though.

Report it to the school. Every single time. If they don't do anything, sue both the school and bullies. The new anti-bullying laws in my state are extremely strict and it'd be nice if other schools followed our example.

Where did you read that this kid *attacked* anyone? I've read nothing of the kind. The weapon, though where it did not belong, was used in self defense.... and at the air, no less. Painting that as "attacking other students" (your exact words) is... can I say dishonest?

There is a difference between attacking someone and defending yourself, even when that defense would be an attack in other circumstances.

Another option, which usually gets the school to act, is to goto the press. The schoolboard would rather get sued in private than to have their "failures to provide a safe learning environment" to be blasted across the TV news, print, and Internet.

But yes... Sending your kid to school with a weapon is the worst possible option. Unless you want to ruin your kid's life in the name of "good parenting." Not to mention probably have CPS knocking on your door, looking at how you raise your other kids, and quite possibly taking them away.

There was no other rational explanation for the post I quoted and you know it.

I figured we were talking about a hypothetical "What should kids do if they can't bring weapons to school?".

I understood the quoted post as Greenday's generic reply to gremcint's generic post:

And another thing that prevents you from succeeding in today's society - being murdered by bullies because, after you took the steps that you are supposed to take (reporting the offenders to the authorities, i.e. the school administration, who proceeded to sit on their asses and ignore the situation), you FAILED to take the only option available to you, namely bringing a weapon to defend yourself.

Because being murdered by a bully is oh so common.
