Honestly, I think this all comes down to knowing your audience. Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but I try to curb my language if I'm in 'polite' company.

Fining and jailing people for it is ridiculous, though. If we fined and jailed everyone who showed a lack of tact and class, we'd have 20x more overcrowding in the jails than we already do.

When I discovered swearing I started making sailors blush. Now I tend to only swear when I am giving emphasis to my words.
