  • D-Day Vet & wife - murdered by home intruder

    Where is the nation's outrage?

This man survived D-DAY fighting Nazis, was even awarded a Bronze Star. He married his wife in 1947... Only to be murdered by a home intruder. And not a simple easy murder either. No, intruder first RAPED his 85-year old wife and beat her hard enough that she died 2 days later. And the vet himself died a month and a half later, from the injuries received.

Why was there no outrage from the nation?

    Because it's not "sensational" enough?
It's the same reason Time magazine has issues for outside the U.S and within, and everything Stateside is watered down drek

Ahh but you're being too kind. Just toss him in jail....and let someone find out he raped an 85 year old woman. If killing a D-Day vet doesnt get him some shit in jail, raping someones gramma? Even bad men love their grammas.

He won't exactly be high on the totem pole.

What's really scary is my great uncle and aunt live in Tulsa. My great uncle is a nearly 90 year old WWII veteran. He has a few problems mostly associated with being older, but he's still as sharp as a whip. The way he takes care of my great aunt, who has Alzheimer's, is something to behold.

I swear if anyone ever hurt him or my great aunt like that, well you'd see a rather different side of sweet, quiet, little Teysa.

To be outrage, there has to be coverage, and this sort of attack rarely gains any but local coverage because it's just too common and typical.

It's a sad fact that people are raped, beaten, and murdered every single day; it takes something especially heinous or that ties in with a hot-button topic for more than local news outlets to focus their resources.

News picks the stories that have the most controversy (Trevon Martin). These stories, while tragic, are pretty one sided and don't have much controversy. Bonus points, if you're white, rich, young, and attractive.

This story reminds me of a church shooting that happened in Detroit. Senseless violence, but sadly all too common in Detroit. If they reported every incidence like this, they'd have no time for all the political crap that's plauging the airwaves.

The Trayvon incident went basically unknown for a few weeks before it blew up. To make it worse, the police did nothing about it and it took a media uproar to get them to act. That deserved the outrage it generated.

The Virginia incident with the 2 reporters getting attacked by the "black mob"was unreported because it was a "simple assault." The right wing media and bloggers have made it out to sound like it was every black person in the city that came and attacked them, but maybe that's why it hasn't caught on as much. People are ignoring the ridiculousness it has become. but the police have a suspect and working towards others. There's no need for an outrage.

There's no reason to make this a media outrage either. This incident, the police have a suspect and are currently working towards getting the others. They're doing their job and working towards bringing justice.

The reason that this is not generating as much outrage as the Trayvon Martin case is simply because the police actually did their jobs this time. The apparent culprit was arrested, and is in jail awaiting trial. It's a sad situation, but justice is being served.

In the Trayvon Martin case, the outrage was less over the shooting than it was over the police initially refusing to investigate, despite the basic facts of the case indicating that it wasn't a clear-cut case of self defense.

Wait, let me get this right. We collectively get outraged over there being too much violence in the news. But one violent incident fails to get covered, and that's an outrage, too?

Stop the world, I want to get off.

Are complaints that there is too much violence in the news really complaints that the violence is being covered, or rather that there's so much violence occurring?

Depends who's doing the talking, but since actual incidents of violence have been on a decline since the 80s, anyone claiming the latter is woefully misinformed.

That violence rates are down does not mean they are low enough.
